You won't find any trendy or kreatyv names here, nor will you find faux Irish ones, ones with made-up meanings (since when does Nevaeh mean "beautiful butterfly" instead of simply being Heaven backwards?!), ones that belong to one particular era (except a few, like Ida and Millicent, but I've always liked them and have never viewed them as disgusting and musty), babyish ones, backwards names, surnames, or masculine names masquering as unisex or purely feminine names. I've found these names in a variety of sources, like fiction, websites, the booklet of names my mother had when she was pregnant with me, the nice naming supplement in an old Seventies dictionary of my father's, mythology, and memoirs. Some of these might sound more suited to a fictional character or a child with a certain type of personality; not everyone can pull off a name like Midnight or Aphrodite without looking ridiculous. But who is the more likely to get noticed and complimented on account of her name, a Kayleigh or a Madison, or a Damini or a Zahira? These names really are for the most part unheard of or out of the Top 300 (a few are in the Top 300 though); this isn't the onomastics list for someone whose idea of "a little different" is Camryn or Reeve.
