Pelkey's Dream Comes True

Written by The Tooth
On a day that was expected to contain blowouts and pitcher duels, no one would be disappointed. The day opened with an early exit for the host team, Ghetto Gallettas as they lost to G (playing by himself because Wild had to get a manicure) by a score of 2-0. Though G had a career outing on the mound, his day of greatness wasn’t over.

In Game 2, TT was faced with the daunting task of taking on Pelkey and Flett by himself (since Ronnie is also a faggot and didn’t make an appearance). Early on, it looked like the game would be quick as TT was quickly in the hole 2-0. But after a hit that cleared the length of the blue monster in left field, he all of a sudden had a prayer. But as quickly as his hopes increased, they were also shot down as he fell further behind again. Going into the 6th down by 4 it seemed all but over. However, after two quick free passes around the bases and another base hit, TT came up in a 6-4 game as the tying run. But, despite his valiant effort he was put out and finally lost 6-4.

The next game would prove to be the duel of the day as G matched up against Tim on the mound. In another sparkling performace, G surrendered only one hit, but to his disappointment it happened to be a long ball by Tooth. On the other end, Tim had to work out of a few jams along the way but when the game was over it was Tim who didn't let anyone cross the plate and took the win 1-0, eliminating Gianetto, despite his excellent play during the day.

In Game 4 we saw Stevo and Flett battle on the mound. Both delivered great stuff in another pitchers duel. In the bottom of the 3rd inning Team Resource struck first as Flett knocked one out. But as Mr. Frawley always says, when they get one, you need to get it right back, and Stevo came through in the top half of the next inning with a dinger of his own. After two more scoreless innings Pelk arrived to the plate in the bottom of the 6th. With his life's dream on the line he ended the mid-season favorites' chances with a home run to move to the championship.

This was what Pelkey had waited for, a chance to meet his arch-rival, Lazz, in the Yardball Cup. Tim took the mound again (because we know about Lazz's abilities from the rubber) and he faced off against Flett. The top half of the first was not what Teeme Kiss had hoped for as they were quickly in the hole, 2-0. Although Lazz struggled a bit during the season he was ready for his chance to put his mark on Yardball as he had a coming out party with home runs in the bottom of the first and the bottom of the second (Pelkey also had a coming out party, but on the contrary he came out of the closet). Tim also hit a controversial inside the park home run in the second, but nonetheless it counted and Teeme Kiss was up 3-2. As the game dragged on into the later innings Tim would be haunted by Shit Hits (also known as Pelkey hits) and fielding errors. With two runs in the 5th and another tally in the sixth Team Resource took the lead 5-3 and set the stage for final half inning. As took place in many of Teeme Kiss' previous games this year, they looked for a 6th inning comeback. Tim led off and knocked a double to get things going. Lazz struck out in the next at bat. Tim came through with a second consecutive double to bring the score to 5-4 and bring Lazz up as the winning run. But today wasn't Teeme Kiss' day and Lazz watched strike three go by as Flett and more importantly Pelkey realized his lifetime dream of a Yardball championship.

MVP, Cy Young, Silver Slugger

The votes are tallied and all awards have been announced. Tim Lloyd defeated Nate Pensero in the MVP race by a single vote. Tim is the first Yardballer to be named MVP other than Ozzie. Tim finished with excellent numbers including 14 HR's, 19 RBI's, a .362 BA, and a 6-2 record, with leading the league in ERA with 2.10 and 7 complete games.

Nate Pensero didn't walk away with the MVP but did walk away with three other very important awards. He won the Cy Young award for best pitcher, Rookie of the Year, and the Gold Glove. Nate had an amazing first year as he quickly established himself as one of the top players in the history of Yardball, and one of the best all around players.

Matt Galletta won the Silver Slugger award for best overall hitter keeping the tradition of a Matthew winning every year. He finished second in the league in BA (.408), HR's (20), and RBI's (29). He had a considerably better year than last year when he finished with a .327 BA, 11 HR's, and 22 RBI's in the same amount of games.

Other awards given out were Most Improved Player, which went to Corey Galletta. Corey also improved considerably with his average going from .267 to .333, his homers from 0 to 1, and his strikeouts from 17 to 12. Corey just matured with another full season of Little League under his belt and also making the 11 and 12 year old allstar team at the age of 11. Kelsey Maxon recieved the dubious honor of LVP. He was released from his team halfway through the year and batted .211 with a 4.56 ERA and striking out 32 times at the plate, good for second most.

Dave Pelkey really wanted MVP, but he walked away with 2 more important awards instead. He recieved The Most Valuable Pussy Award and The Old Man River Award (AKA most dedicated / most obsessed). He swept these two awards with unanimous outcomes. Pelkey also recieved the honor of the most suprising event of the year, when he hit a game winning homerun off of Stevo in the semi-finals of the playoffs. Two other awards were Playoff MVP given to Gianetto and Best teamname given to Team Benjie's a God Damn Retard.
