Methylprednisolone (pulse dosing)

Indications

Demyelination

Multiple Sclerosis

Optic neuritis

Check UCE especially serum potassium before commencement

Dosing

1 gm methylprednisolone in 250 ml N saline over 1 hour iv daily for 3 days

Slow K 2 tabs oral daily whilst receiving methylprednisolone

No taper required for steroids

NB: Some regimens use 500 mg rather than 1 gm of methylprednisolone.
