Sonic 3D Blast was supposed to be Sonic's big return to the Genesis alongside Sonic X-Treme for the Saturn.  But because of Sonic X-Treme being delayed, Sonic 3D Blast came out for the Saturn.  Both versions of the game, sadly, were not that popular.  The game also had a different title in Europe: "Sonic 3D Flickies Island".  Another wierd thing is this:   This was the first Sonic game ever to be released in just the US and Europe; it never came out in Japan!  Though now it is under the European name.

Anyway, in Sonic 3D Blast, Sonic travels to the mysterious Flicky Island to see his friends the Flickies.  Flickies are special birds that can travel through dimensions via big magic rings.  Robotnik learns about the Flickies and decides to capture them so he can use them to build a machine that will destroy Mobius.  Sonic learns of this and is once again off to save his friends.

There are eight zones including the final zone.  Each are three acts long with a fight with Robotnik in act three.  Each act is divided up into small sections.  In these sections, you destroy badniks in order to free the Flickies.  There are five flickies in each section, and once you have them all, you'll have to jump through one of their gigantic rings to get them back to their world, then continue on.  Keep in mind that if Sonic or a Flicky is hit by something harmful, the Flicky(s) will scatter and you have to pick them back up.  And as before you have to get all seven chaos emeralds for the good ending.  You get them through special stages(of course), which can be accessed by collecting 50 rings and finding Tails or Knuckles(HINT: Knuckles stages are way easier).

MSM's Review(Genesis and Saturn)

Not bad.  Everyone says the control in this game sucks.  Gee, maybe try looking at the INSTRUCTION MANUAL and PRACTICING would help some?!   The things that annoy me are having to pick up all the Flickies when Sonic gets hit.  And the final boss is too long.  The Saturn version seems somewhat better, with better graphics and cooler music.  But it has the slowest loading time I've ever seen.  What's really annoying is that they have to show the map of Flicky Island between every single act!
