Man: “Why was my marriage license denied?”

Me: *looking over the application* “Sir, you had 60 days after the license was issued for you to get married. The license is only valid for 60 days. It’s been over 3 months.”

Woman: “But we got married here when we filled out the license.”

Me: “You didn’t have the clerk or a magistrate officiate a ceremony or fill out the rest of the form, so you were not married. If you want to get another valid license and have someone marry you here, I can get you another form.”

Man: “Fine…”

(I go to get blank application and shows the couple where to put what information, where to sign, etc.)

Me: “and we’ll need a check for $40.”

Man: “But we already paid that! I’m not paying that again!”

Me: “Sorry, but it says on the top of the application that the $40 fee is non-refundable, even if you miss the 60 day window. If you want another license you need to pay the fee again.”

Woman: “This is stupid! We already got married here!”

Me: “No, ma’am, yo–”

Man: “WE AIN’T PAYIN’ AGAIN!”

(The couple storms out. As they leave, I hear the man grumbling.)

Man: “F**kin’ government. I thought that Obama was gonna fix this s**t!”

welcome back.  Not so fast Okies and Ducks.  The Cowboys opened the door and your two tripped trying to run through.

1.  LSU.  With no blocks in sight.

2.  SHOULD be Alabama but they had their shot at LSU at home no less and lost.  No rematch.  Oklahoma SHOULD be here but the loss last night dooms them to 2nd tier status, again.   I'm willing to keep Okie State here, in light of a narrow road loss and a top 10 schedule.

3.  Oregon got bowled over by USC so we'll put an upset Stanford in this slot.

4.  And now we're scraping.  South Carolina is another two loss team so we'll put Boise State back in the mix just to piss people off.

Houston.  HOUSTON??!  Are you serious?  They play the 117th toughest schedule in Div I (that's A and AA combined.)  North Texas, La Tech, Gerogia State, and a week Conference USA schedule.  No way.

And what's was the deal with the SEC?  While other schools are settling conference title gam bids and rivalry games they take on Divison II???

OK ... here's my last two decades:

1991 & 92:  Bartending and Catering.  40+ hour weeks for below minimum wage.  But the tips were good.  No insurance.  No retirement benefit.

1993-97:  Went to work as a mortgage broker.  Purely commissions.  No insurance.  No retirement.  No unemployment.  Considered self employed.  Set my own hours.  Covered seven counties.  Paid off my student loan (15 years after graduating) Lost the job when the couple I worked for got a divorce.

98: Various and sundry gigs including cold calling for mortgage loans.  No benefits.  Cried lot.

99-07:  Debt collection.  Worked my way up to management.  Job drove me nuts.  Left to start my own business.  Are we up to my lazy part yet.

07-08:  Ran a bar/restaurant.  Worked 15-20 hours a day for 6-7 days a week.  Lazy yet?  Still wasn't enough.

08-09:  Delivered newspapers and magazines.  This with an advanced degree.  Needed to put food on the table.  Delivered cars for an automobile dealership (required me to be on the road sometmes for 2-3 days).  Back into debt collection, eviction and process serving.  Now THERE's fun lazy work. 

2010:  Landed a teaching job.  And we ALL know how lazy teachers are, right Mr. Teleprompter???!

My initial reaction to TPOTUS' execution of al Walaki, a US citizen, without a  trial, by use of a drone, was one of disgust.  But the Newtster has changed my mind and put a member of the DMC in his place.

Let me be-- let me be very clear about this. There are two levels. There's a huge gap here that-- that frankly far too many people get confused over. Civil defense, criminal defense, is a function of being within the American law. Waging war on the United States is outside criminal law. It is an act of war and should be dealt with as an act of war. And the correct thing in an act of war is to kill people who are trying to kill you."

OK.  Sorry for the ad hominem attack, but it just feels so RIGHT to blurt that out.  Aaron Ross Powell has done a GREAT job unpacking her silliness.  The meat of the analysis:

"I go out to dinner with a friend at Red Lobster and he picks up the check. “It’s my turn,” he says. For sake of argument—and also because it’s probably true—let’s say that this creates an obligation on my part to provide him with a meal in the future. Note that this obligation is to my friend and for a meal.

I could discharge this obligation in a number of ways. I might take him out to dinner at some later date and pay for it. I might invite him over to my place for a dinner I cook myself. If he’s confined to his home for some reason, I might come over and cook for him—or I might have food delivered. What matters is that I received a benefit from my friend and I repay it by providing him a similar benefit.

Something similar is going on in Warren’s argument for political obligation. I’ve accepted a benefit paid for by “society” and so I, in turn, must provide society with similar benefits in the future. But then Warren makes a very odd move—the one from (3) to (4). She claims that the only way I may discharge my obligation to society is by giving money to the state. Reframed in the restaurant example above, Warren appears to be claiming that the only way I can repay my friend for buying me a meal at Red Lobster, is by giving money to Red Lobster so that it can, in the future, provide my friend with a meal.

Clearly something has gone wrong. I owe my friend a meal. But I don’t owe Red Lobster anything at all. Just as there are other ways for me to discharge my obligation to my friend—buying him dinner somewhere else, cooking him dinner, etc.—it seems perfectly reasonable to conclude that there are other ways I can discharge my obligation to society. I might give money for scholarships to private schools, thus “repaying” the education I benefited from. I might invent a new and efficient means of transportation, thus “repaying” the mobility from roads I benefited from."

Let's start with three "That was then, this is now" stories

First, a little late but here's NOW on Clinton/Cain:

From April 2, 1998:

Judge Susan Webber Wright’s ruling dismissing Paula Jones’ complaint against Bill Clinton certainly gives lie to the right-wing charge that anti-discrimination laws have gone too far. And it shoots down the tired complaint that a man can’t even compliment a woman at work anymore.

Jones alleges that Clinton ran his hand up her thigh, exposed himself to her, asked for oral sex and pointedly reminded her of his friendship with her immediate boss. No woman should have to put up with such behavior at work. But according to the judge, even if then-Governor Bill Clinton propositioned and pawed then-state employee Paula Jones — certainly misconduct for any employer or supervisor, Jones does not have a valid harassment claim because she could not prove that the overall result was a hostile work environment.

This ruling does not mean it’s open season on women in the workforce.

Women who face unwelcome sexual behavior at work can still win in court if the harassment is so pervasive or so severe that it interferes with their jobs. When it does, lewd bosses and crude co-workers can and will be held accountable.

Revelations that presidential candidate Herman Cain was accused of sexual harassment while heading the National Restaurant Association, as well as suggestions that financial settlements bought silence, are deeply troubling.

Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits sexual harassment in the workplace. Unfortunately that has not stopped the widespread practice of unwelcome sexual advances, innuendos and jokes in the workplace being leveraged by men against women.

Last night, Mr. Cain’s campaign responded to news reports of the allegations with a statement that the press were “Spreading rumors that never stood up to the facts.” And yet this morning, Mr. Cain acknowledged that he was accused of sexual harassment while he was at the National Restaurant Association.

 How about Debbie Wasserman Schultz (Democratic Party Chairman) on Cain/Weiner:

Colby Hall at Mediaite highlighted how Democratic Party Chairman Debbie Wasserman Schultz went on The Situation Room on CNN on Friday and trashed Herman Cain for using the word "princess" for Nancy Pelosi: “I thought it was a pretty callous, sexist throwaway line.” Then Wolf Blitzer allowed her to unload a wagon of talking points against the entire GOP field for 66 seconds. When he then asked if she believed Cain or his accusers, she insisted “I think Herman Cain needs to come clean and address them and say far more than he’s said already.”

Mediaite and CNN have short memories, since Wasserman Schultz embarrassed herself back in June by insisting Anthony Weiner didn't have to share anything with the public...other than the bulge pictures he'd already posted on Twitter. Blitzer should have remembered -- since she refused to offer a Weiner opinion on CNN, as Blitzer repeatedly asked for one.

And one more ... another Clinton:

Chelsea Clinton has famously said, “I do not talk to the press”.

But now it appears Chelsea Clinton is going to NBC:

NBC said it had hired the 31-year-old Clinton to work on projects for “NBC Nightly News” and Brian Williams’ newsmagazine, “Rock Center.” She will report stories for the feel-good “Making a Difference” series.

The only child of former President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is pursuing a doctorate at Oxford and working for the Clinton Foundation and Clinton Global Initiative.

This is one of those seasons that might even make ME lean to a playoff system.  IMHO a plus one would be fine, if you care.

Buckeyes?  OT keeps us out of the top 25.  And moves us out of the top 30.  Hoping for a hard-fought win over the baby rapers before a 2 td loss to the school up north.
