I am the head of the Biology Department at a privately held biotech company. I have over 15 years of hands-on experience in molecular genetics, and rapidly rose to a high level management position in less than one year.

W O R K H I S T O R Y

Molecular Applications Group Leader, GeneMachines 2001- Present
-Scientific: Assay development for the company’s line of automated laboratory equipment. These include high-throughput bacterial culture, colony picking, plasmid purification and DNA microarraying. Responsible for conceiving and testing new applications for existing machines, including high-throughput isolation of total RNA from eukaryotic sources, protein extraction, solid phase purification of plasmid DNA and DNA microarray fabrication and processing.
-Management: Manage the company’s biology team, consisting of Research Associates. This involves everyday tracking and supervision of projects, periodic evaluations, and salary recommendations. Propose laboratory budget needs and oversee equipment and supplies purchases. Sit on the Health and Saftey Committee and resolve matters involving laboratory and biological concern. Provide weekly updates of Applications Development to the recently hired VP of Development who oversees both R&D biology and engineering.

Research Scientist, GeneMachines 2000- 2001
Optimize and develop new applications for the company’s existing line of products. Suggest new product ideas to address the laboratory automation needs in the life sciences.

Postdoctoral Fellow, Stanford University 1994- 2000
Engaged in molecular genetic research focused on the post transcriptional regulation of gene expression. This research involved the use of modern molecular techniques in yeast, human tissue culture cells and human RNA viruses.
