So who the heck is this guy anyway?

Welcome to my home page. I use the flags on the left of my home page to denote that I am a proud American of Irish and German ancestory. I'm very proud of my heritage but, I'm an American above all else. I am a real patriot, I love this country and what it represents, but like so many other people these days I'm kind of torn up and have a lot of mixed feelings. I guess now that I'm older (just entered the senior citizens ranks 55) I see things differently. Growing up I in the 50s and 60s we weren't taught much about the seedier side of our nation's history (history is written by the victors). I knew that we became a nation and grew this country by taking it from the natives Americans, but I didn't learn anyuthing about their culture and traditions when I was in school. We weren't taught about the camps that Japanese Americans were sent to during WWII or that most everything was taken from them. There aare so many pages of the history of this country that really cause me great pain. Don't get me wrong, in spite of all of this nations wrong doings and dirty little secrets, I still believe it's the greatest country on earth, but I would like to see some changes, some returning to more traditional values.

Like most people, I have varied interests I like to travel, I love to golf, I love camping and canoeing, and I love all kinds of music. I'm still trying improve my golf game, which has plenty of room for improvement, but check out my Golf Page,I got a hole-in-one, talk about lucky. And of course my greatest source of pride is my children, they have both grown into pretty outstanding adults, but I'm still thier Dad and they are my babies, and I couldn't be prouder. I have page for each of my kids and pictures of them througout the years, so give them a look see too.

I'm more of a spiritual person than a religious one, but the older I get the more convinced I become that there must be a creative force and that fore watches over us especially when we are paying the least attention to what we are doing. Some mights say it our guardian angel, and others might call it dumb luck or coincidence, I just know I been fortunate to have a lot of whatever you want to call it in my life.

Overall I'd have to say that life has been pretty good to me, certainly in regards to my children it's been extremely generous. If you let it, life can reward you greatly in small but meaningful ways. For example, as I'm writing this, I'm listening to a CD and its playing a piece from Puccini's Madame Butterfly. I remember hearing this for the first time many years ago and my dad told me the story of the opera. Anyway, when I hear this aria it moves me deeply and I feel that connection to my dad and a time long gone by. A small moment, little effort, but a big pay back.

For me its those moments; looking at old photos, hearing a beautiful piece of music, a smile, a sunset, a good golf shot, that give life meaning. So, my advice (remember, advice is worth what you pay for it), is to enjoy the little things, because they are what gives meaning and color to life.
