THE DEMETRA POLL
CROSS COUNTRY COMPUTER RATINGS

The Demetra Poll uses an algorithm to rank cross country teams based on race results only.  These ratings are designed to eliminate the subjectivity associated with coaches' and fans' polls.

In 2002, on both the men's and women's sides, the Demetra Poll more accurately predicted the outcome of the NCAA championships than the coaches' poll and the letsrun.com fans' poll.  Over the last three years, the Demetra Poll is 8-0 against competing polls.

If you have any questions/comments, send me (Chris Demetra) an email.

2001 NCAA REPORT CARD:

For the second consecutive year, my ratings more accurately predicted the finish at the NCAA Nationals than the Coaches' Polls, on both the men's and women's side.  Though the goal isn't prediction, I think the algorithm did a reasonably good job.  Complete details can be viewed below.
