Cult
Movies
Certainly the "Movies" (sometimes I feel embarrassed saying
"Film"), is turning out to be the section I'm working hardest
on. (Music ain't bad, neither.)
This website is moving mighty slow -- I know I have taken on way
more than I can do, but my maniacal streak refuses to let me ask some
friends to write some copy. Just realize (if you're familiar with
the psychological terms, I'm very much both a "People Pleaser"
and a "Yes, but.." type of personality), so I just keep on
plugging away... Alone... please.. help me!!!
Ahem -- I should remind you that -- for what's it's
worth -- I do have a 4-year bachelor degree in
Communications/Photography & Film Production from Southern Illinois
University (actually, quite an excellent program), and I have probably
seen more films in any given one year period than the average person
will see in their entire life. Part of that may also be because
my taste roams from the lowest of the lowbrow to high (I loved Last
Year at Marienbad, a 1961 "art house" hit directed
by Alan Resnais that as far as script complexity and especially viewer
comprehension makes David Lynch's Eraserhead seem like The
Sound of Music. I try to go into a movie with no preconceptions or
prejudice.
You can get to most of the film sections on the Cult
Movies graphic up at the top-left, or back to the main sections
either on the left or at the bottom of this page.
My favorite part so far is probly' my response to the
American Film Institute's list of Top 100 American films. I tried not to
put any of the same movie's on my list, but mine are definitely all-American
(which severely limited my choices). And while you could probably
question the pure Americanism of a few of AFI's choices,
it's the same with me, since I refused to leave out maybe a couple
choices (like a few Mexican horror movies I just refuse to
overlook... maybe I'll write a "Mexican Horror" section!
Yeah, right... Also, who am I to say they are the "Greatest?"
So my list is unabashedly my favorites. And somehow. the list
came-out to some
270-or-something of my favorite U.S. films.
I also want to alert you that both the People
section, with fine actors like Timothy Carey
and Lawrence Tierney as well as directors
like now infamous Al Adamson, as well as
the now notorious and world renowned, Edward D. Wood Jr.; Luis
Bunuel gives you a little dose of Surrealism;
and especially, I can't forget the Cheepnis
section -- certainly one of my favorite film genres --, which I just
started about a month ago. Strange the things we overlook. ! is te feugifacilisi.
