NINE: MORNING COFFEE

I'm freezing my ass off in minus zero New York weather and I can tell you now, I am missing Florida.

It didn't help that the so few hours I get to actually sleep were interrupted oh so early in the morning by my management as they barrelled down my door to get me ready.

"Coming" I yelled through the door as I jumped into a pair of tan slacks over my boxers, zipping my fly as I threw the door open.

"Geezus AJ, can't you keep it in the trap long enough before waking the whole of New York with your sex life?" She covered her hand over her face, leaving a gap between her fingers to figure a path to my room.

"Not when you're around, Precious" I winked. "You know my hormones go outta whack when you're here". I looked her up and down for the first time since she entered.

I'm not sure what it was, but God, if you're up there, thank you, because she ditched her usual jeans-sweater-coat outfit and turned herself into one sassy looking woman. Geezuz, she wore a skirt! (I would have chosen something a little more wild than dark corduroy for her, but I guess it was a start). White Cinderella boots made here legs look longer than usual and her customary ponytail was abandoned, opting to let it loose.

I pursed my lips together as a soft shrill rang from my mouth. I seriously wanted to crawl back into bed... with her beside me.

"Stop perving, Alex" she demanded loudly, turning a little red as while she made herself comfortable on my unmade bed.

She knows I hate to be called Alex. Ugh. It sounds so defined, so set in stone. I'm all about the moment, which is pretty ironic, as this career is binding me to the core.

"You look like a girl" I stated bluntly. "What's the occasion?" I asked as I pulled my shirt over my head. I grabbed a bright yellow shirt from my suitcase, and replaced the one I had just torn off. "You do realise you're sitting on my bed... in AJ McLean's books, that's an unequivocal sex invite" I reminded her sliding my mouth into a smile which I was told made girls wild. Well usually. With Minna, nothing ever seems to impress.

"Huh?" she responded blankly, shaking her head as if to reclaim her line of thought.

Well Golly Miss Molly, I could have sworn Ms Prescott here had roving eyes. Guess she's not as immune to the male species as she'd like us to think.

"Like?" I couldn't help but tease. I know she would never admit it.

"Pardon?" she shot back snootily, but I spied a smile creep across that angelic face.

Knew she couldn't resist the Mc Lean Body

"We're gonna be late..." she sang whilst she made a beeline to the mini bar.

"What? You don't even have root beer in here!" she cried in horror, just as an insistent rapping was heard at the door.

"I'm sorry that my mini-bar contents don't meet to your standards" I muttered. "But I thought that I'd fill it with things I'd actually like"

"So you're telling me you don't like root beer?" she asked in shock as I walked to the door and threw it open to a bell-boy.

"Thanks" I said as I tipped the guy and brought the food into the hotel counter. "Best breakfast this side of town" I commented as I whipped the lid off.

I watched her eye the plate longingly as I deliberately left it to become cold. I got up and poured myself a cup of black coffee, no sugar.

I gulped it down, still watching her stealthily. "For you" I said as she just her eyes widened in surprise. "Couldn't have you fall asleep on me during the interview"

"I'll just have coffee thanks" she replied as she made a beeline for the coffee pot.

"C'mon, don't pretend... I know for a fact this is your favourite breakfast"

"And how'd you know that?" she quizzed as she raised her eyebrows.

I walked over to her, my face inches away from her. "Precious, I've spent every other morning with you this past month and besides coffee, this is the only other thing I've seen you order"

"It doesn't mean it's my favourite" she protested as she poured herself coffee in the mug.

"Two sugars, right? I asked as I held up the small white packages. She snatched it away and tipped it in.

"I don't see your iced lemon tea"

"That's because it's for you, sweetness. So eat up before Nick barrels the door down."

A loud, insistent knock could be heard through the door.

"Come on in" she yelled loudly. For someone wanting out of this assignment, I'd say she was pretty comfortable.

"Yo, AJ, we have three minutes to get down there" Nick greeted as he made himself comfortable on the bar stool.

"Mornin' Minna" he smiled sickeningly at her as he threw open the mini bar door. "AJ, don't you have root beer?"

"Ha!" she scoffed "Told you root beer was missing"

I pouted as I encircled my arms around her waist securely. She tried to struggle out of my embrace, but I was too strong.

"Come on baby, you know I'm all the sweetness you need"

"Root beer is bitter, darlin'" she stated bluntly, as she pulled my arms away from her waist.

"Well, all the more you need me, precious"

Nick just stared at us blankly as a look of disgust crossed his face.

"Ugh... you guys are so gross" he commented. "If I didn't know any better, I'd actually think you guys were together"

"No way!" Minna yelled as she pretended to gag.

"Nick, look what you did to my girlfriend" I complained mockingly. "You made her choke and vomit"

"Not my doin' Bone. Besides are you sure it's not your doing? It's seven in the morning and your girlfriend is vomiting...hmmm"

That boy is pure evil. "You sure you kids have been usin' protection?"

"Hey, man, I am 100% safe" I protested as Minna emerged from the bathroom. "Safe sex is my number one policy" I announced as I tugged at her wrist and pulled her down to the bed, simultaneously pulling a condom from my pocket. "See? I carry one everywhere... this woman is totally unpredictable and we could be doing it anywhere any time"

"So is that why I kept hearing banging on the roof last night? It was you two" he nodded as a wide grin donned his innocent features.

Minna punched me hard on my arm as she grabbed my waist and pulled me forward. "We're going...now" she commanded.

"See what I mean?" I shrugged, smiling as I was led out of my hotel room, Nick behind us shaking his head.
