| Character Name: | Kennedy Chen Hoi Ying | Yandy 'Li-An' D' Alexandry | Edison Chen Khun Hei |
Christian 'Chris' Lau Tze Kin
|
Howard 'Howie D' Dwaine Dorough |
| Personality: | Thankful for the opportunity to live in the U.S., Kennedy was named after the former American President. As the first child in the Chen household, this proved tough due to the fact she was a girl, and as Kennedy grew up in a western society, her own values began to clash against those of her strict, traditional Chinese parents. Kooky with a twist, she strives to be somebody else in a life pre-determined by her parents. | Her bohemian upbringing with her French father and Chinese mother gave her an independent, if not self-applauding, confidence to attitude in life. Although teased in her younger years, for being bi-racial, overcoming this obstacle has only made Yandy a stronger person. Laid back and in control, she is street-wise to the unknown, and sweetly opinionated to those who know her best. | Growing up as the only boy in the Chen household has not only provided him with privileges denied to his older sister, but an attitude which is no nonsense, 'for the moment', packaged in an altogether mischievous, if not cocky personality. A hit with the ladies with his sweet words and 'cooler than you' looks, Edison is the epitome of emancipation at work, managing to escape the shackles of his parents traditional Chinese outlook, unscathed. | Christian, otherwise known as 'Chris' is the undisputable 'perfect catch' for Kennedy, in her mother's eyes. The oldest son of the Lau household, he has not only honoured his parents by becoming a doctor in his own right, but is set to marry the 'perfect' girl. His womanising however, is a dark mystery to his family, except for Kennedy who will prove to be tested in the worst act of betrayal yet. | Yet again, the sweet, lovable 'adopt me' boy next door, with an exotic twist, Howie is the undermined player, trying to find something in an industry that has a lot to offer, but not a lot to savour. One night stands are not unusual, but a relationship with anyone other than his immediate family and the people he works for/with is less than rare. |
| Why: | I wanted someone who didn't look particularly 'supermodel' material, but real and fresh-faced enough to relate to. | I'm starting to think all females named Lee-Ann/Leighanne/Leanne etc are gorgeous model types who are all trained to look good... but anyway! I thought Lee-Ann was a perfect example of someone who used their bi-racial background to their advantage, defining themselves beyond stereotypes, which is why she's perfect as Kennedy's closest friend. | Edison was chosen purely for the eye-candy factor (ain't I bad?), but there is this 'pesky, 'too cocky for his own good' younger brother thing going on with him-->> kinda reminds me of a 'Carter', he he he! | Sunny (yeah, it's his real name--->> OMG, right?!) was actually in this HK cop drama (kinda like, 'Crossing Jordan' meets 'The Bold and the Beautiful') I really adored, because of the inter-relationships between the main characters. Although 'Chris' is not so much of what 'Kong Tze Shan' was, he was still pretty much envisioned as the sturdy, dependable boy-next-door type, which Chris is supposed to be. | I've taken an idea that he has voiced his opinion about and manipulated it to make this story. The first version of 'Something Real', made him turn out like a caricature, so I'm trying to define a personality beyond that irrepressible smile. |
