FIVE: Celebrity Math 101 & The Ice Maiden June, I so cannot believe you!" Caitlyn yelled as she flopped onto her friend's freshly made bed. "How could you be so rude to Nick yesterday?" she demanded as fury reflected in her usually calm green eyes. "Spare me the lectures Caitlyn… I can spot a jerk a mile away" June supplied dryly as she lined her books neatly along her mahogany bookshelf. "Besides, what I can’t believe is that you're going to see him again today… plus, you gave him your number" "It’s simple celebrity math…He's Nick Carter, Backstreet Boy… what other explanation do you want?" she replied logically as she took her blonde hair and piled it up on her head. Sucking her cheeks in she studied herself a little longer. "Why do you hate him so much anyway?" she finally asked, turning to look at her friend. Cos all guys are hormone driven maniacs who can't control their sexual urges- it's all scientific she rationalised in her mind. "You should be nicer too… he still invited you today, despite your bitter ass attitude yesterday" "Thanks, but no thanks… I don’t appreciate pity asks" "It's NOT a pity ask and it wouldn't hurt you to come out once in a while…I'm starting to wonder if your father's secret name is Dracula" Caitlyn teased dryly. "Look, I don’t care whether you loathe the guy or not, but I am not going alone" she demanded, once again pulling her friend to the closet and pulling out various outfits. "I'm NOT going" June stated stubbornly, just as her mother passed her room, with the loud vacuum cleaner in tow. Her little brother toddled past, crying as he held a melting red marker. "Actually, may be I will" she announced suddenly as she grabbed her leather jacket from the back of her desk chair and dangled the car keys in front of her mother. "I'm going out" she called half-heartedly. "Be home by seven… we're having dinner with Daddy today at that new Italian place" "Yeah, yeah" June replied as she grabbed Caitlyn's fragile wrist, pulling her reluctant friend away from the half-emptied wardrobe. "Trust me, there is no one I want to impress" she muttered under her breath. Nick checked himself in the mirror. Hair; perfect. Shirt; perfect. Profile; fine. "You know if you continue to stare too long into a mirror, you may actually walk into an alternate universe" a kind southern voice teased lightly. "I take it you don't want to play some 'one-on-one' at the moment..." the voice reasoned as he watched Nick click the clasp shut on his sliver banded watch. "Nope, got myself a date with an angel" Nick replied distractedly while pulling a comb through his thick blonde hair "And the Hell Spawned Ice Maiden" he muttered as he frowned across to his friend, basketball in hand. "Say what?" the voice queried "Hell Spawned Ice Maiden?" he asked in mock confusion. "This coming from Mr I-Can Get-Any Girl-I-Want Carter" he taunted as he raised an eyebrow at his friend. "You know, you don’t have to continue this charade…We were all only teasin" "Frick, you don't understand" Nick explained as Brian took a seat on one of the few burgundy lounges in the elaborate hotel room. "I've always been the youngest of the group- which means I've always been seen as the most immature, most irresponsible...in other words, I get all the crap from you guys" Brian continued listening intently, not budging from his chair. "I need to show that I can do this- that I'm not just a freakin' kid who loves video games; I can be an adult too" "And you're willing to prove this at the expense of two innocent girls who happen to be an experiment AJ thought up with his freaked out mind" Brian asked sceptically. Nick nodded solemnly. "If I can get the "Hell Spawned Ice Maiden-" Correction, June" Brian interrupted, a bemused look quickly forming on his features. "Whatever" Nick shrugged. "So, if I get her to actually fall for me, then I'll not only prove to you guys I still can charm the pants off any girl I want, but prove to myself I can take control of my life" "Nick" Brian stated dryly. "There are doctors for these things" he quoted, while he burst out in laughter, dropping his basketball. "Frick, you know what? I don’t give a damn anymore- I'm doin' this, with or without your support " Nick stated stubbornly as he stormed out of the hotel room. "Nick, I just hope you know what you're doin'" Brian stated as the grin slid off his face. He left the room, closing the door with a soft thud. "Cos it's gonna scar them for life more than you can ever take responsibility for." |
