EPILOGUE The crowds cheered loudly, deafening to the ears of the five fan sakes on stage that had just finished a carefully choreographed, energetic routine. The five bowed almost mechanically and wiped their sweat, which was perspiring through their ludicrously extravagant and flashy costumes. Nick looked out appreciatively to the crowd and strode forward confidently, cordless microphone in tow. Here goes nothing he thought. "This next song means a lot to me..." he began as girls began to scream even louder than before, some even crying in happiness. "Sometimes when you're on the road, you get a little lonely" he explained, a little bashful as he made his way to the left side of the stage where more squeals of delight could be heard from the audience. "And you learn very quickly how important friends are" he proceeded as he looked out into the colourful crowd. He waved randomly to a couple of fans holding banners "Thank you; we love you too" he responded in the usual Carter charm to the banner. The girls holding the banner stood stupefied at their close encounter and began crying, whilst he just shook his head still smiling. "But as I was saying, having friends who really care for you as a person and not just as a "Backstreet Boy"- it's rare to find in this business" he paused as he searched carefully for his next words. "So I want to dedicate this next song not only to The Boys and the Backstreet Band who are the soil which keep my roots firmly to ground when I'm on the road..." More squeals from the audience. "But to someone who isn't here tonight" he choked out sadly as the audience empathised. Be cool Carter, be calm, be cool he repeated in his head. He took a deep breath in, just before he proceeded. "I couldn't go through the year without living all seasons, but most of all, I know couldn't go through a winter without you" he announced adding a personal pun to the message, just as the first notes began to play "You are my fire The one desire Believe when I say I want it that way" Brian stepped up as the whole stadium erupted in loud, deafening whistles and cheers. June, this is for you he sent telepathically, as Nick took a deep breath in and exhaled. "But we are two worlds apart Can't reach to your heart When you say That I want it that way…" Nick sang as the whole stadium erupted in a stampede of squeals, wolf whistles, and cries of "We love you Nick". Maybe not today, but some day… we'll find common ground Nick reasoned as he grinned for the first time in a long time. Now I can see that we've fallen apart From the way that we used to be No matter the distance I want you to know That deep down inside of me You are my fire The one desire Believe when I say I want it that way

"…Get out of my room" June yelled as tears streaked down freely from her brown eyes. "If I were you, I'd be really sorry…" she continued to banter as she pointed to the door angrily. "June, I never meant to hurt you" Caitlyn yelled. "It was an honest mistake…both on my part and his part" she added regretfully. "I know I should have never betrayed your confidence…" She confessed as she broke down on the ground. "I promised I would never hoe in on a guy you liked…" Caitlyn babbled. June just looked at her best friend; her closest confidant in awe So why did you do it? she asked silently. But instead, "It's too late Caitlyn" she said quietly as she shook her head. Caitlyn stared at June, fury evident in her brown eyes. "You're willing to throw all our friendship away for Nick Carter?" she slurred in disbelief. "No…" June replied quietly as she folded her arms across her chest, as hope appeared in Caitlyn's eyes. "It’s not because of Nick…" she supplied. "It's because I was too weak to stand up to your betrayal…If you were any friend, you would have never done it at all… I deserve better than this" she spat out, punctuating the last word by throwing a stuffed toy across the room as it bounced off the wall. "June, You really are whacked out" Caitlyn seethed as she picked herself up from the floor. "No Caitlyn, I'm not" June said as she paused for effect. Caitlyn turned around, huffily as tears began to form behind her eyes. "I just grew up" she stated simply as Caitlyn left in a huff, slamming the door behind her forcefully. June climbed into her bed, as she fixed her gaze onto the beige ceiling. She pulled the blankets around her securely, as if it shut out anything bad which could have harmed her. She burrowed her head deeper into the covers to escape the incessant shrill of the phone. One ring. Two rings. Three rings. "June? Listen, I'm leaving in about three minutes…I thought I'd just ring to say good bye…"
