Religion

Religion is one of these topics guaranteed to offend.

Yay!!!

i can't abide people thinking they're better than others, and although i believe people can think what they like, i don't believe they should talk about it like they are and force it on others.

the knowledge about different religions and belief systems should be made accessible to people, but none should be forced into one fixed religion. agnostic might be a nice term. but unitarian universalists also have a nice system where individuals take all the good aspects from different religions that suit them, and none of the silly doctrines that accompany SOME religions. the dogma.

i think the best way to be is to look for your own truth, whether you find the one that suits you in a book written thousands of years ago or in many books from thousands of years ago or on an internet site, or in the middle of a desert on a pilgrimage. just be nice to other people, and you stand a good chance in the afterlife no matter what you believe, how often you go to church or meditate or whatever.

but the beauty of freedom is that no one makes your decisions for you, and so if you want to continue on in your old belief system then that's fine, just be tolerant of others and treat each other well. no religious scripture i know of advocates being an asshole, so, for example treat women equally, and be nice to homosexuals and we'll all get along fine. what you think is religion telling you to stone women and harrass homo's is actually your culture, your parents and your home town. and they're certainly wrong.
