Propaganda is the best tool the capitalists have to work with. they make us feel small, ugly and stupid so we don't try to stop them.
beauty magazines make us feel ugly, some people to the point that they feel too self-conscious to want to leave their homes. THEN in the same issue they promise to give us ways to make ourselves look fabulous so we're constantly made to feel that we're hideous AND that the very magazines that make us feel this way are going to help us feel better, so we carry on buying them. anyone who's read 1984 raise your hands please.
the entire social structure at the moment is geared up to make us simultaneously feel that we have complete control over what happens (democracy), and that we can't do anything about it because we're just one person.
