Preface:

Welcome, brothers and sisters, to Many Profitable Things. This is a term that I took from the writing of John Bunyan, where his famous Christian pilgrims meet on their journey to the Celestial city and engage in discourse on these “many profitable things”. I have created this series out of a desire to address doctrinal issues of the Christian faith, condensed into little ‘bite-sized’ portions that anyone can digest in the space of about five to ten minutes. I feel that nowadays most people—and most unfortunately, most Christian people—regard theology as something for the intellects, only to be grasped by higher and wiser minds. However I stand firm in my belief that, as Evagrius put it, “A theologian is one who prays, and one who prays is a theologian.” So I will therefore publish this series of short, concise essays on the Christian faith over the next year or so, looking at various doctrines and dogmas of the faith with each one. Along with every essay will be included some supplemental reading, not required to grasp the concepts, but edifying nonetheless.
