Welcome to the Asylum

Can't believe Turkey day is just two more days away. Have no idea what I'm going to do yet. Prince Of Death invited me over to his place to celebrate with his clan, but I think I'm going to pass- still grieving and for some reason I just want some time to myself. Still got a lot of paperwork to go through and papers to scan. Have to see the lawyer next week to update her and I should start working on the yard before I reapply for home insurance.

Have you ever seen the film About Schmidt. I can really relate to that character. Like Schmidt, I've let the house go, the fridge is always empty, and its a struggle just to concentrate on dealing with the day to day legal issues with the Trust. I haven't reported to work since August. Have been trying to force myself to call in and inform them I'm ready to come back to work, but something stopping me from making that call. I watch the hours past and I keep promising myself I'll call them in the next hour, but I don't. I just keep on continuing to go through more paper work and scanning more documents. Maybe I'm going to have to pull a Schmidt and go on a road trip to find myself again.

If I do stay home for Turkey day, I'll probably work on making a N.A.S. My sisters on the east coast and up north would like easy access to all the documents I've scanned. Now that I'm on broadband, I figure I'll try and set up a N.A.S. or ftp server; so they can access the scans anytime they want. Might use this as the OS. Looks pretty easy.

Somewhat of a quiet night, worked with Fac Kato, had one Visitor left over from swing, and one or two false fire alarms.

Kato had a big project of installing some new circuits for a Visitor who suppose to move from Asylum 3 to Asylum 2 sometime next week. About twenty circuits were needed to be installed. Kato did most of he work by 0200; when the left over Visitor left at around that time, Kato decide to take a nap break. Got him up by 0600 so that he could finish up the work.

I spent half the shift doing some research on a new type of WinAmp stream called ultravox. Its a popular stream now being used by AOL on the WinAmp stream. As of yet, no one has been able to rip that particular type of stream. Still too early to say if it will be cracked. Also was checking out this thread posted by Prince of Death. Interesting stuff.

Only one new news, according to Kato, it seems Ma Bell might not move into Asylum 3 until Feb 2005 (first quarter of 2005). Unsure how reliable this news is, but will keep an eye out for any further developments.

Quiet night, worked with Tech Dav, had one Visitors, and a few false fire alarms.

Dav spent the whole shift knocked out in the back. Only saw him twice when he relieved me for my two wanderings. Looks like he had a long weekend too.

Only had one Visitor left over from swing who was busy installing some new servers. The visitor was a new client to the Asylum and was still installing his equipment; he was still installing when I was relieved by the day shift Patient. With the Visitor popping in and out of the cell every hour to take a break, I was slow in setting up my system. When I finally did have my system up and running, I just worked on filling out some resume for some more job postings. Close to the end of the shift, took a break and played some video games.

No new company news.

Hopefully this week won't be as bad as my weekend, worked with Tech Pooh, had no Visitors, and just a few false fire alarms.

Pooh was busy in the back working on some fiber, the project kept him busy for most of the shift. To keep himself focus, Pooh had a movie playing in the background. He was watching the Spiderman 2 screener I had brought in two weeks ago; the movie and the project kept Pooh focus until about 0530, after that he started to lose in his battle with the Sandman and by 0600, he was down for the count as I could here his snore booming from the back.

Spent most of the day dealing with car insurance and body shop; also had a brisk five mile walk to the local car rental shop to get me a ride for the week. As you can guess, I was very tired when I came in to work. After spending some time catching up with Pooh, I just went on Winamp and watched a movie. Someone was kind enough to stream the latest anime movie to hit the screens. They were streaming a very good copy of Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, that just hit the theaters about a week ago in limited screens. After that, I just played some video games to keep myself awake.

No new company news to report.

As for yesterday's car accident, here's the what happened. It was early Sunday morning and I had just left Prince of Death's house. Around 0345, I was just outside of Salinas's city limits and there was maybe one or two cars behind me. I had the cruise control set on 55 since that area was 55 zone and I had gotten a speeding ticket in that general area about two months ago. I quickly looked in my rear view mirror and saw two cars approaching quickly, one behind the other. The lead car was making a lane change and made a blinker signal. I didn't think much of it and continued to look ahead and continued driving on the outside lane. As the lead car was passing me on my left, I quickly took a quick glance to see what kind of car was passing me. All of a sudden, my car jolted forward and I was blind sided for a moment. I quickly gained control of my car. I naturally thought I might of ran over something when I made that quick glance, I looked in my rear view mirror and was expecting a road kill left behind, but instead I saw that the second car had rear ended me. The second car was slowing down and pulled off to the shoulder. I did the same. Got my car to a full stop, took a few minutes to see if I had gained any injuries- moved my arms, legs, checked my breathing, etc. Everything checked out ok, and I started to slowly get out of the car. Walked to the rear and was very upset at what I saw. A lot of twisted metal and shattered plastic. I had left the car running and I could barely see the muffler hanging and hear it sound really bad. I looked back down the road at the car that hit me. I remember seeing no head lights and I could here the drive still had his engine on. No one got out of the car to check for damage. I continued to inspect my damage for a bit and looked back at the other car again to see any signs of life. The driver still hadn't gotten out of his car. The other car was about a good 100m away and since I didn't see any movements, I started to walk towards the car. At that moment, the car begin to move towards me and I figure the guy finally came to his/her sinces and was coming up to exchange vehicle/insurance info. I should of know something was up when I notice the driver was approaching me driving back on the highway instead of the shoulder. I started walking back towards my car to get my insurance, and watched as the car slowly passed me, then my car. At that point, I realized the bastard wasn't going to stop. I saw the a$$hole drive away slowly. I don't remember seeing any tail lights or license plate lights, the car's interior was pitch black (maybe tinted windows). I was pretty much dumb founded. I wanted to drive after the guy, but wasn't sure of the driving condition of my car. I didn't want to take the chance of damaging my car any further and stood there frustrated as the car drove away. The only info I could get about car was when it passed my head lights, I noticed it was a black hot rod with red and yellow flames on the front.

I couldn't believe this was happening. I waited outside of my car for a patrol car to pass by; none did, only one or two cars and none stop to ask if I needed any help. I decided to attempt to drive my car home, which wasn't too far away. I drove the car at around 40mph and the muffler didn't sound to good. Made it home ok and began to call the police and my insurance. Shortly afterward, got a visit from a Highway Patrol Officer (actually there was two officers and a trainee). I told them my story and asked what goings to happened. They said all they could do was file the report. Since I wasn't able to make out the model of the car, driver license, or the look of the driver, they had nothing to go on. I asked can't we go and check out any body shop and see if any one has just came in with a hot rod with flames in the front. The officer replied, "Do you know how common it is to see a black hot rod with flames on the front?". That's when I realize I had no valid proof and no case. The only silver lining was that I still had full coverage on the car so the repairs is only going to cost me the deductible of $250.00. And also the cost of any rental service- didn't bother to get that option when I was getting my insurance, now I wished I had opted for that option.

This year really REALLY SUCKS.
