Hobbies

Well, I don't have as much free time as I used to (trust me, I had WAY too much free time on my hands), but I still try to make time for some things. I love to read science fiction, like the Foundation series by Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke's Rama series and the books of Dune by Frank Herbert. I also read this series called The Keltiad from Patricia Kennealy based on Celtic myth and culture with a bit of science fiction tossed in.
I must admit, I am totally stuck on Lord of the Rings. It's sad, really. But J.R.R. Tolkien was a genius! I mean, who creates new languages in their free time, complete with all the lettering, syntax, and pronunciation. Wow. I also read Catch-22, and that is one bizarre book. I didn't realize until halfway through the book that there it's written with a reversed timeline. It's starts at the end and ends with the beginning. Very bizarre. I hated it, but I couldn't put it down because I wanted to know what the hell was going to happen. Odd book.
I read other stuff too, like Hawaii by James Michener and random books I find in the library. I got this awesome book on discard from the school library that was in perfect condition. My guess is that no one wanted to read it. I can see why. The darn thing is about two and a half inches thick and it's about the history of England. It's called Sarum. But it's really cool! Stop looking at me like that, it's not nice. Lately I've been reading my sister's pre-teen books. They're actually pretty funny! My current favorite is the series 'Angus, Thongs, and Full-Frontal Snogging: Confessions of Georgia Nicholson' by Louise Rennison. They're bloody brilliant, and set in England. Ridiculously funny.

Another thing I do all the time (literally) is play the piano. I love playing the piano, especially going up and down the keyboard with arpeggios. My mom writes a lot of beautiful music and I love playing it and tunes that I've written. I also wrote my own version of Pachelbel's Canon in D. That is a gorgeous example of Baroque music if I've ever heard one. I love listening to the orchestrated and solo versions of that song.

My family is really into music, which is probably why it's so ingrained in to my very being. When I play the piano, I'm letting go of myself and letting my soul come out. That's why I let so few people hear me really play; it's a very personal experience for me. When I let people hear my music, I'm letting them take a peek at my inner self.

I also play bass clarinet in the college band and clarinet ensemble. I have way too much fun playing bass clarinet! I love playing in symphonies and concert bands. Bass line rules! And I get to take lessons next semester with my favorite teacher, Br. Holman. Good times, indeed.

And now on to my other hobbies. (There are more?!) I am a huge fan of The Legend of Zelda. The Ocarina of Time was the best. Mask of Majora was okay. I didn't like the time constraints in the game, but all the extra sidequests were fun. I'm currently working on Wind Waker. The animation is really different (i personally prefer the original) but the storyline is really, really cool and the world is gigantic! There's this one part with the castle and.. I won't spoil it for you ;) My boyfriend also has a PS2 and he let me play Kingdom Hearts. That is an awesome game. I finished it after, like, 60 hours of gametime. Sweetness.

Strangely enough, I like to work in my family garden. I like working with the earth and pruning things an pulling weeds. There's something strangely satisfying in pulling a huge weed out of the ground. My favorite flowers to have are Martha Washington geraniums. There's just something about them, I think they're pretty. And roses. You can't go wrong with roses. Especially red and yellow. My two favorite kinds of roses. They's be purdy.

Take me home.
