New York Times Arts 9/8/02: "Exciting and deeply moving with unforgettable performances by a stand-out cast." - Jeanne Wolf's Hollywood
"A magical fantasy beautifully acted and beautifully filmed."- Jim Svejda KNX CBS Radio
Turning my attention for a moment away from more mature films, this is a film I'm looking forward to a great deal.
I recently read "Tuck Everlasting" (a short read to be sure) and found it to be a compelling piece of literature completely worthy of more adult appreciation in it's depth and presentation of such serious subject matter, and it's appreciation of prose and atmosphere. The film promises to be in the vein of other quality family films based on books such as the Little Princess and The Secret Garden, and old Disney favorites such as Pollyanna, Old Yeller and Mary Poppins.
It boasts a talented veteran cast consisting of Sissy Spacek, Ben Kingsley, and William Hurt, and the young cast of Alexis Bledel ("Gilmore Girls"), Jonathan Jackson ("Insomnia" "General Hospital"), Scott Bairstow, Victor GArber, and Amy Irving.
Directed by Jay Russell with the already much lauded (see reviews) cinematography by James L. Carter and score by William Ross ("Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets").

The Reviews (divided into Good and Bad (duh))Good reviews
- Sacramento News and Review - review by Jim Lane "Tuck Everlasting is one of the best movies of the year, an exquisite, pitch-perfect fantasy with a heart of gold. It's the best live-action Disney movie since I don't know when; it never puts a foot wrong and there's not a blade of grass out of place."
-Variety (Robert Koehler) "Rarely has an American family pic so beautifully passed along to smaller viewers the hard, tough facts of death.....production package renders pic almost achingly beautiful "
- ReelReviews review by James Berardinelli "Tuck Everlasting is at least as mature as movies like The Secret Garden and Fairytale: A True Story. The cartoonish buffoonery and mindless action of many family films is entirely absent. Disney's live-action division has a history of releasing cinematic flotsam, but this is one occasion when they have unearthed a rare gem."
- rickatnight.com review by Rick Grant "This is a thought provoking kids movie for the entire family that asks the big questions of life and death. It's well written with a stellar cast. It's not often that a Disney movie aimed at young people has such depth of field and is so intelligently made. It's a feast for the eyes and heart."
- Steve Rhodes Reviews by Steven Rhodes"Handsomely filmed and beautifully scored, the movie is set mainly in the lush and deep woods near Winnie's house. The ending is perfect and will likely leave a smile in your heart and perhaps a tear or two on your cheek."
Box Office Prohpets mini-review by Dan Krovich "Featuring beautiful scenery and wonderful performances from its young cast and old pros, Tuck Everlasting presents its message simply in a straightforward manner. While that, along with the teen love story, are clearly aimed at the young adult audience, it's something that older adults could use a little refresher course on too.""- (Multiple reviews here) IMDB.com listing
-PlanetSickBoy review "Bledel's is a great, star-making performance, wonderfully aided by the sunbathed work of director Jay Russell and cinematographer James L. Carter (both of My Dog Skip fame). Bledel's lips have never been redder, eyes never bluer, hair never more fabulous. The pastoral settings are gorgeous as well."

"The cinematography and backgrounds are among the most beautiful I've seen in a movie....an excellent movie. I'd go out and see it again tomorrow and the day after that..." -Dee
"...haunting strains of the opening music to the lush cinematography...powerful, inspiring piece of moviemaking that holds your attention from beginning to end...a thought-provoking, joyous journey" - Kris Rasmussen (professional Freelance Writer)"cast of Tuck Everlasting is one of the best of the season... what saves this from being just a Hallmark Hall of Fame romp is the beauty of the filmmaking and the exploration of not only youthful happiness but deep sadness. The emotional depth of the film surprised me greatly, and it is well worth the time and the tears to see a tender, intelligent, and truly moving look at how we deal with the difficult choices of life." -Matt McCluskey Washington University Student Life, St..Louis, Missouri

- The Eye.com review by K.L. "When was the last time you saw a family film that was more melancholy than uplifting, and that was set to a classical score with more lutes than violins? ...classy, star-studded tale"
-The Toronto International Film Festival Official Site review by Jane Schoettle "The crisp cinematography stunningly captures the dappled light of the Tucks' Eden and infuses the film with an exquisite quality of enchantment. Veterans Spacek and Hurt anchor a vital cast and Bledel and Jackson are beautifully matched as the young lovers."
