History of the Kashmir Conflict

Since 1947 when India gained indigence from Britain the Muslims and Hindu parties have disagreed on many views. Because of these disagreements Pakistan (a predominately Muslim state) separated it's self from India (a predominately Hindu state) to become it's own state/nation. At this time the Kashmir valley also wished to become an independent state but both India and Pakistan wished for Kashmir to be part of there state because of it's rich fertile land and mix of both Muslim and Hindu people. Pakistan and India have fought 3 wars since 1947, they also came dangerously close to a 4th and 5th potentially nuclear showdown in both 1990 and 1998. On 4 out of 5 of these occasions tensions were over Kashmir.
