Welcome to my page for Link's Awakening. This game is one of the best Zelda's ever, and is one of the best Game Boy games of all time. They now offer a DX (deluxe) version that has color. These are almost exactly the same, but the DX has a photographer and an extra dungeon.
You can either read the entire walkthrough, or use the links below to warp to the part you want.

When Link first arrives on the island, he wakes up in Marin and Tarin's house (what creative names!). Hop out of bed to talk to Marin. She will tell you what happened. Then, talk to Tarin. He will give you your shield. You can check their bureau at the top of the screen, but that's not important. Walk out of the house. You can explore the village, but without your sword you can't do much except talk to people. In the telephone booth you can talk to Ulrira, who usually has good information, but at the moment he isn't helpful. You need a sword. The shop isn't selling one, so you'll have to find the one you had before you crashed. Where could it be? The only place you can go at the moment is south to the beach, so go there. Uh oh, enemies! You have no weapon, so use your shield. Once you get to the beach, you will see some sea urchins blocking your path. Push them out of your way by holding down your shield button and pushing the urchins. Go to the beach where your sword is. An owl will appear and yell some non-sensical message at you. Just take your sword, whoop some enemies, and go back to the village. Now that you have your sword, you should do some things. Make sure you do everything that I tell you, okay? The OPTIONAL stuff are the only things that are optional (also the secret seashells and pieces of heart and money, but hey, you want all those, right?) Anyways, where were we? Ah, yes. Not much else you can do in the village, so go to the Mysterious Wood. The stupid owl is there again, but at least he tells you that there is a key somewhere in this forest. Wander around for a bit, and check what you see. You should find a wacko racoon, a cave, a fairy, and if you wander really really far, a witch's hut. You might see some rocks blocking the way to cool stuff, but that's going to be covered later, hold on. Here's where there's another optional thing: if you have the magic powder, sprinkle it on the racoon and go north to get the key. Otherwise, a fairly long trip is in store for you (should have mastered that Trendy Game, huh?) Alright, go in the cave that you saw. Fight off the bats with your sword, but don't stand on a weak floor for too long or it will break. Smash all the wierd rock plants with your sword, then push the rock in front of the chest. Open it to get 50 rupees! Yes! Anyways, go north and west. Uh oh, a rock puzzle! Don't worry, this one's easy. Just push rocks, and there's no way you can lose. Exit and pick up the mushroom you see. It's very important, so don't smoke it or anything. Now you just walk on back... uh oh. The rock puzzle, only from the other direction. Not too tricky, just push the bottom right rock right, the one above and to the left of it left, the one above and right of that right, and the one right above you up. Now go see the witch! From the cave entrance, go up, up, right, right, down (don't hit the little squiggly dude!), down, and right. Hold the mushroom up around the witch, and she will make it into powder for you. You get more than the Trendy Game, but the Trendy Game is so much easier. Anyways, sprinkle some on the racoon and open the chest. Ahh! Stupid Owl! He's talking about some instrument in a cave!? Just go back to the village for now. The important thing is that you have a key. There? Good. Go to the space with the two little boys, and go down 1space. Then go right twice, down once, left once, down, and right. Walk up to the keyhole to put they key in, and enter the Cave. Welcome to level one, brave warrior.
Now that you are in the "Level 1: Tail Cave", you have an easy dungeon ahead of you. You probably don't even need this to help you, but some people might. So here it is. Anyways, head left from the entrance. The enemies in here are invincible, so don't keep hacking them with hopes to kill them. Use your shield and sword to herd them into the holes in the floor to get a key (yay!). Now go left again. A chest! Be careful: there is slime in here, and when there is slime on the floor the ogre statues will shoot at you. Just slash the slime really quickly and get the compass in the chest. Read it once for now, but it will get really annoying later. Anyways, go right twice and head up. Defeat the enemies and step on the switch. A chest will appear with a key! Here, it is best to go to the right. Defeat the enemies to get a map. The skeletons will jump, but just hit them when they fall back down. Then walk up north through the "funky door". From the next room, head left and open the chest for a key! Now go left and kill the enemy for 20 rupees. Go up either dodge the spiker or push the block in front of it to block its movement. Go up, right, navigate your way around the room and go left, then push the block that isn't part of the chain. Go through the door. Now you get some wierd enemies. To defeat them, just make them hit your shield and then slash them. Stairs will appear. Go down them and navigate your way through the passage. When you come out, walk up twice and go to the chest by dodging the enemies. You got Roc's Feather! If you don't know by now, Roc is a wierd guy who, although many of his products exist in the video game world, has never shown his face. You may have heard of Roc's Cape from other Zelda games, or Roc's Wing from Castlevania: Circle of the Moon. Roc, Roc, Roc, who is he? Nintendo should make a game called, "Roc: Grounded for Life". Anyways, I believe this game was the first to use one of Roc's inventions. If you use A or B, it will let you jump. It will come in very handy in this dungeon. Navigate your way back to the room that you come out of when you use the "funky door". Actually, go one space to the left. You may see, on the right side of the screen, a rock that separates the path into an upper and lower path. Go upper, then go right and up. Either defeat the enemy or ignore it. The important thing is the keyblock across the gap. Just push it to use a key on it and walk up the stairs. Go left to get the Boss Key! Then go back to the room with the "funky door". Go right, and either go up to get the optional stone slab or go right to fight THE DARK SIDE OF THE PILLSBURY DOUGHBOY! Just jump over his log and slash him with your sword. No biggee. Then a warp will appear. It takes you back to the entrance. It's not really useful in this dungeon, but it is in later ones. Go up and go through the boss key door. The Moldrom will appear! The Moldrom is hard. Not because you die, because if you fall in a pit the Moldrom regains all his health. To win, use your spin attack (you know how to use it, right?)on his tail. You need to hurt him 4 times to win, but the spin attack does double damage. Don't fall in the pits on the edge! If you do, just walk right and up. Then go back into the Boss Room and try again. After you win, you get the Full Moon Cello, an instrument of the Sirens! Later, there will be more to do!Chapter 3
All right, that wasn't so bad, now was it. Heck, this game is going to be a piece of cake, right? Head left to hear the stupid owl again. Now head back to the village. On your way, it would be ironic if you thought, "What am I going to do now? I have no clue as to where to go next." Well, when you get back to the village, all your questions will be answered. The two ball-playing boys will yell at you and tell you that the town was attacked by Moblins, a tradition that has been continued in other Game Boy Zelda games. Although the town was attacked, there is no damage except that the big black ball of a dog is now missing. Being the good man that you are, you resolve to rescue him. Since you still can't move the rocks blocking the eastern path out of the village, you can't do anymore at the beach, and there is no possible way to go left, you must head north again. This time, however, you have the feather, so you can go to other places. For the sake of the creators, pretend that you have done the following. You walked north through the woods and went up until you got to the Goponga Swamp. You jumped the gap to Mr. Write's House. The instruction book says he looks familiar, but I can't place him from any game that I have played. Later he will have a picture of a princess, either Zelda or Peach, so he must be from one of those games (oops! You didn't hear that). Anyways, you found that you couldn't do much in the swamp because of all the plants. You walked east, out of the swamp, and found yourself on a screen with two white pig things and some rocks. Go south until you see a cave. Head inside. Okay, you could do that, or you could just travel along the path leading to the Witch's Hut. There is a piece of heart surrounded by holes. Get the heart, then go north from that screen. You're at the cave!
This is the Moblin's Cave. It's pretty easy. The first thing you encounter is a Moblin. This is not any ordinary Moblin, however. This one can speak english! Not only that, but he can regenerate himself back to life over and over again! He is just amazing! Too bad he just challenged you to a fight and you wasted him. Oh well. The door opens. Next room, his 4 roommates who probably can't even grunt. They can shoot arrows, but they rarely do that. Kill them, then go to the next room. Oh no, it's Boss Moblin! This one can speak english too, but he can't regenerate himself. Not only does he shoot arrows and charge at you, but he can't be hurt with a normal sword swing. To beat him, stand close to a wall. When he charges you, the doofus will hit the wall with the top of his head (don't worry, his speech and motor skills are not impaired by frequent blows to the head.) You think hitting the wall 50 times would kill somebody, but it doesn't. Just hit him with your sword while he's stunned from crashing into a stone wall like an idiot (somehow, a metal stick hitting his head hurts, but a rock wall doesn't). After the Moblins are destroyed, there will be NO MORE YOUR ENTIRE ADVENTURE! Just kidding. This is only one faction of the International Moblins of Amazing Depth and Original Resident Kidnaping (IMADORK). You will meet more Moblins later. Anyways, walk right from Boss's room until you see Bowwow, the exotic overgrown tick! Walk up to his rock to free him. Now you can go into the swamp, because your new pet leech will devour most any moving object on the screen (not you, don't worry.) Anyways, go back to the swamp. Eat some plants, find the chest, and enter the wierd cave. The Cave is really Bottle Grotto, Level 2!
Ah, level Two. A really easy dungeon to begin with, but now it will be even easier. The first thing you might notice is the pots in the beginning surrounding a treasure chest. Hmmm... Wonder what you get in this dungeon? Anyways, go up a screen and light the torches with your magic powder. You might as well say goodbye to the door to the left, because you don't need to go there. It only holds a map, and it's not worth the effort to get it. Just go right into the next room.
