after

some describe it as a shade of gray,
the rainy face of life's yesterday,
a hazy fog of black and white blur,
shifting static, a television's purr.

some say it is a bleak barren field,
sleep in a sepulchre, eternity sealed,
a broken accordion, blind, deaf, and mute,
motionless bodies dirtied with soot.

others see sunshine, or sweet summer rain,
dewdrops on stars that heed life's refrain
canopies of fire, diamonds of light,
luxury simple in the eyes of joy's sight.

i don’t know what i see in life ever after
or what is to come at the end of life’s laughter.
for now i live, as i always will—
each moment loved,
each vision fulfilled.
