Florentine Films, a Ken Burns' documentary film company, is in the early stages of a series for PBS on the history and meaning of the Vietnam War, to be told by those who lived through it - combatant and civilian, American and Vietnamese. (Our previous projects include award-winning PBS series on The Civil War, Baseball, Jazz, the National Parks, and the Second World War.) One of the many stories we are planning to include in our Vietnam film is that of Denton Winslow Crocker, Jr. of Saratoga, New York (his family called him "Mogie"), who was in the 101st Airborne in Vietnam from September 25, 1965 until he was killed in action on June 4, 1966. Crocker was initially assigned to the headquarters company of the 2nd BN, and at some point in 1966, was transferred to A Company, 2nd BN, 502nd INF.
His family is fully cooperating with our project, and has shared his letters with us. They do not know that much, however, about what his experiences were like in Vietnam. Therefore, we are hoping to make contact with veterans of the 2nd BN who knew him and served with him, either in the HQ Company or in A Company. We also would like to speak with veterans who could help us understand the combat situations and living conditions the unit experienced in Vietnam from the fall of 1965 through the summer of 1966. We are also looking for home movies and audiotapes that any 101st Airborne veterans might have made of the unit during that time. Any veterans who would like to share their memories should contact us at
