Armies in Plastic Confederate Infantry in Butternut, product number
5412, representing a battalion from the 23rd Mississippi Regiment. Butternut-colored
dye was used for Confederate uniforms, when gray dye became scarce, though
some gray dyes would fade in the sun, turning into a butternut color, and
some of the homemade uniforms were also a butternut color. The 23rd Mississippi
Regiment is reported to have had butternut-colored uniforms, which were
homemade.
