Lisa’s Vision

Although she was a member of one of the most successful pop groups of all time, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes spent a good portion of the last years of her life very far from the limelight. In the late 1990s she traveled to the impoverished Central American country of Honduras for the first time, and soon made a second home for herself there. She was drawn to the country’s natural beauty, holistic healing, and most of all to its people. When she passed away there in 2002, she was in the process of bringing to fruition her dream of establishing a non-profit educational and medical center on some property she owned near the coastal cities of La Ceiba and Jutiapa. Today, the Lisa Lopes Foundation is poised to make Lisa’s dream a reality.

The Foundation’s Mission

The initial mission of the Lisa Lopes Foundation is to establish and support a health and educational center in La Ceiba, Honduras, to ensure access to health services, educational programs and basic literacy courses. Eventually, the foundation will establish similar centers in other underdeveloped communities, including ones in the United States.

Inauguration Party

This event will introduce the residents and governing officials of Atlantida, Honduras, to the Lisa Lopes Foundation. Atlantida is the first of the underprivileged communities which the LLF plans to elevate and uplift through its educational and medical initiatives. This event, which takes place on Lisa’s birthday, doubles as a celebration of her life and work.

Projects

Phase one of the construction of the Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes Community Center begins in March of 2004. The center will provide medical, vocational, and literacy programs for Honduran youth. Eventually, the center will establish ties with schools and colleges in the U.S. so that American students can contribute to helping further the foundation’s goals.
