Middle Ear Infection

Middle ear infection is usually connected to respiratory infection. The rat will exhibit torticollis (wry neck) which may circle to one side. There may be a loss of balance.

Antibiotic treatment should be given immediately to reduce the infection. Unfortunately the head tilt may be permanent. The rat usually compensates for this and copes adequately. It will go on to live a relatively normal life as long as it is treated promptly.
