Hatching At Last
Cara watched the egg intently. It had been months since she had brought it home and still it hadn't hatched. She made sure to keep the nest neat and clean and close, but not to close to the fire so it stayed warm. When ever she was unable to stay by it, she made sure that Snow did and would alert her to any changes. She was convinced that today would be the day. The egg seemed harder than it usually was, and she hoped that was a sure sign of the coming hatching. She had asked Sideara and Suki to come and help her if she needed it. She heard a knock at her door and went to open it.
She cracked the door a bit and saw Sideara staniding on the other side. She grabbed the older girl before she had a chance to say hello. I don't think it is going to hatch, Sideara. I don't know what to do, what if I hurt it moving it around, or what if I got it to close to the fire? she asked beginning to panic. I'm sure everything will be fine. Sideara said trying to calm the young girl. They heard a tap at the window and went towards the balcony. Suki was outside since her bulk was just to big for the house. Cara opened the door and immediatly hugged the large dragon. Suki, is it ever going to hatch? she asked hopeing that the older Bunny Dragon would know. Suki stretched her neck into the room as far as she could and sniffed at the egg. She jumped back and looked surprised. *Oh, my yes, and very soon. You have a strong little dragon in there. I am surprised you havn't been able to hear him.* Suki replied. *You might want to get ready, it will be VERY soon. He wants out and he wants out bad.*
Cara beamed when she heard the news and went to gather blankets to dry the little one off when he did hatch. Sideara went to sit by the egg when it suddenly began to rock violently. Cara, you might want to get over here! Sideara shouted. Suki continued to sit on the balcony but was getting more and more aggitated as time wore on. *I'm going to fly about for a bit, the little one is grating on my nerves with all his whinning.* Suki said and took off.
The girls continued to watch the egg rock. Suddenly, Cara heard a voice in her head, and it wasn't Suki this time. *Don't worry, I will be with you soon.* it said. The egg rocked so hard that it fell out of the nest and began to roll towards the balcony. The girls followed it outside and wondered exactly where it was going. It finally settled and to thier surprise, began to crack. A single, large crack formed and be gan to grow until the egg just split down the middle, and revieled a small grey Bunny Dragon.
Cara rushed towards the little dragon, just an Suki landed with a bunch of carrots in her mouth. *I thought he might be hungry after he hatched, I know I was.* Suki said after depositing the carrots at Cara's feet. She took a few and offered them to Robin, who gulped them down greedily. *Thank you, you are my mommy right?* he asked deep blue eyes shining with love as he looked at Cara. If that is what you want, then so be it. she said and bent down to scoop him into her arms. See, I told you everything would be fine. Sideara said, walking up to admire the newly hatched baby. She thought back to when she found Suki and rushed to snug her bond. Suki nosed at the little hutchling and wondered if she had ever been that small. Surely she had been, but she just couldn't remember. *Well, it looks like I will have someone to teach to fly now.* she said making it sound like more of a chore than she really thought it was going to be. Robin snuggled into Cara's arms and was quickly asleep. I guess I should make him a little bed so he can nap . Cara said looking at her friends. Thank you for sitting with me while I waited. she added before returning to the house. Sideara followed her in to help with the bed making. Suki nested down and soon fell asleep outside. The girls put Robin in his new bed and decided to nap themselves. It had been a long day and everyone desereved a good sleep.
