Making advanced hills:
Saving and Loading your map:Now, who wants to drag all those points up and down, just to make some hills? I don't. Instead, select all grids, by going to Select Menu. After that go to Tools menu and click Make Hills. There you go! Now if you don't like the height, you can Make Hills again and see if you like that better. To make the hills not so smooth, click on Make Bumps in Tools menu. That will add little uniform bumps to all selected points. Keep in mind that all map transformation is done through points. To see them, go to View and check Draw Points.
Tools menu has very useful options, like sharpen. Start a new map, select all grids, and add some Noise (Tools menu). This just added random heights to your landscape. Now use Sharpen option to make turn that landscape into a complete mess. Once you used Sharpen once, you can press 'R' key (for repeat) and sharpen your landscape again and again.
Another useful option in Tools menu is Smooth. Start a new map, select a square area. To do this, first select the starting square. Then hold shift and click on your second square. This will select the rectangular area bounded by those two squares. OR. Go to Select and choose Square in the Selection Brush submenu. Now you can just click on a square and the program will select near by squares. Give it a try! When you have a square area selected, change the Hill Radius to None and raise the selected as high as you want, but not too high. Now select all grids and use Smooth in Tools menu. Use 'R' key (for repeat) and smooth that block into a nice flat hill.
Once you have your map done, go to File menu and click Save As. Type the filename and there you go. To load you map, choose load and to start a new map, choose New. Pretty self-explanatory.
