Laguz is the basic life energy of the multiverse and the secret source of all organic life. Laguz is the lög (Old Norse for log) of life, throughout the multiverse and in Midgard. Here are the cosmic laws that govern the development of life forms.
This Rune represents the primal waters of Niflheimr that hold the latent, amorphous potential of life, which must begin as ice and given energy by the power of Muspellsheimr's fire for the potential to become actualized in manifested form.
This is a potent Rune of initiation - especially the initiation into life. The mystery of vatni ausa (the ritual sprinkling with water) of the ancient Nordic doctrine of rebirth - aptrburdhr - is contained herein. The functions of Uruz and Laguz are closely interrelated on different levels.
Laguz also contains the watery rite of passage at the end of life - the crossing of the primeval waters into the realm of the dead. The myths of Odin as the ferryman of the souls come into play here. The ship burial of the Vikings and the symbolic water crossing used by them are also examples of this belief.
The word Laukaz also means "leek," which is also expressed into he Old Norse name Laukr. This stands as a symbol of organic growth, phallic power (virtue), and fertility in the physical as well as spiritual realms. Laguz reigns over herbal magick lore, known in Old Norse as lyf and in Old Englis as lac-nunga. The shining leek (ítrlaukr) was often given to a young man when he had proven himself as a warrior.
A counsel against overreach and excessive striving. Drawing Flow Reversed is a warning against trying to exceed your own strength, or operate beyond the power you have funded to date in your life.
Laguz Reversed often indicates a failure to draw upon the wisdom of instinct. As a result, the intuitive side of your nature may be languishing, leaving you out of balance. What is called for now is to go within, to honor the receptive side of your Warrior Nature.
