The royal cortege through the streets, from Amalienborg Palace to the Town Hall of Copenhagen, where a reception was offered in honour of HRH Princess Benedikte and HSH Prince Richard zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg. Unlike in 1967, when Princess Margrethe and Count Henri had travelled by car to the Town Hall, a carriage cortege was staged to allow the people of Copenhagen to cheer the royal couple, since the wedding would be held in the intimacy of Fredensborg Palace.

Right, the three royal sisters, Princess Benedikte, Queen Anne-Marie and Princess Margrethe at the Town Hall of Copenhagen, during the reception. Left, a close-up of the beautiful Queen of Greece.

Above, Princess Benedikte and Prince Richard appear on the balcony of the Town Hall of Copenhagen, from which hanged a large Dannebrog, before the reception in their honour. Below, people and some children braving the cold to cheer the royal couple, waving Danish, German and Greek flags, the first two in celebrating the couple and the third celebrating the return of Queen Anne-Marie to her homeland.

Princess Benedikte and Prince Richard arrive in an open landau, despite the cold, at the Eremitage Hunting Lodge, one of the residences available to the Royal Family and owned by the State. The Princess’ friends organized an equestrian display to celebrate the couple’s wedding.

The younger members of the Royal Family, Princess Benedikte, Prince Richard, Prince Henrik and Queen Anne-Marie, watch the equestrian display from the balcony of the Eremitage Hunting Lodge.
