REQUEST Shania's NEW "Don't!" SINGLE coming to country radio January 17... REQUEST Shania's NEW "Don't!" VIDEO at video channels NOW. Please keep requesting Shania's current "Party For Two" at radio. Try to make a weekly habit. Selected Radio Request Phones & Links plus Top 20 Shania "Don't!" & PFT stations.
January 20: Shania's new "Don't!" single officially went to country radio Jan 17, but was available to stations last week. "Don't!" charts today at #40 with only 298 spins, down 48 from yesterday and only +69 spins for the week (not among top 20 spin leaders) with an average audience/spin so far, added at 68 of 116 stations (lost 4 stations?? in 2 days). Daily spin drops/fluctuations don't mean as much later on with many times the airplay, but are critically important for a brand new single. Please start to REQUEST Shania's brilliant "Don't!" single NOW. Many stations are still playing PFT, but it's fallen far faster than "Don't!" is rising... ALL fans please try to request Shania's "Don't!" single at least weekly (more if feasible). Shania's "Hits" CD has sold amazingly well with little radioplay and promotion, but "Don't!" is the knockout new single nobody's heard yet... "Party For Two" remains Shania's single at AC stations, at #16 today (339 spins, just +9 for the week). Hot AC and pop support remains nonexistent. Please REQUEST at country, AC & Hot AC, and Top 40 stations. Large metro area radio Request Links plus Shania's top "Don't!" stations... More large market stations and more spins are needed immediately.
January 20 : Weekly Charts -- Shania's "Greatest Hits" album sold 74,000 copies (up 8%), rising four spots to #3 on the USA all-genre/pop album chart, and remains #1 country for the 10th straight week since release. In Canada, Shania's "Greatest Nits" slips one to #4 all-genre (5 weeks #1) with sales down slightly from last week (7,500 range), and again easily remains the #1 country album... Shania's NEW "Don't!" single officially went for adds Jan 17, but in pre-release play debuted at #44 Billboard country (#1 debut/"Hot Shot") while her "Party For Two" country single drops to #22 current. In pre-release play Shania's NEW "Don't!" single debuted at #40 R&R as the #1 most added single (23 stations) last week. PFT slips one to #17 (no bullet) at Billboard mainstream AC but jumps three to #16 (bullet) at R&R. Still no activity at HAC or CHR (won't be any now for this single)... Canadian Radio: At country radio Shania's "Party For Two" drops two to #17... NEW "Don't!" was #1 most added country single but does not appear on the main chart yet; at AC PFT slips one to #9, and at Hot AC PFT drops two to #12 (no bullets at any format). PFT remains #2 on the all-genre airplay "Hits" chart (6 weeks #1). Nothing at Top 40/pop... Shania's "Don't!" can be a cross-format smash (dobro included), and will be serviced to other radio formats eventually. International fans can expect "Don't!" at radio and video channels soon. Reported "Don't!" Single dates (not firm): Europe Feb 14 (selected countries); UK Feb 28.
January 19: Procter & Gamble announced (press release) the launch of Shania's Wishes for Spring(TM), the newest scented disc in the line-up for Scentstories(TM) by Febreze(TM). The disc is the latest note in P&G's marketing partnership with superstar Shania Twain to promote Scentstories, a revolutionary new way to play scents like you play music. With the purchase of Shania's special limited-edition Scentstories disc, consumers will also be able to receive a exclusive Shania Twain DVD by mail while supplies last with Proof of Purchase. In celebration of the Shania's Wishes for Spring disc launch and to support the fight against hunger, P&G will donate $100,000 to America's Second Harvest, a charity close to Shania's heart... Learn more at Scentstories/Shania. All Shania's proceeds will help alleviate childhood hunger through Second Harvest.
January 19 (18): Another very slow sales week at music retail. Official sales numbers are in today. Shania's "Greatest Hits" album sold 74,000 copies, rising four spots to #3 on the USA all-genre/pop album chart, and remains #1 country for the 10th straight week since release. Shania's "Hits" was one of the few CDs with any sales increase (up 8%, largest increase in top 10), as overall album sales remain in the January doldrums, down another 9.5% from last week. In Canada, Shania's "Greatest Nits" slips one to #4 all-genre (5 weeks #1) with sales down slightly from last week, and again easily remains the #1 country album. With several nauseatingly overhyped new albums due these next few weeks, this was the last outside chance for awhile that Shania's album had at #1 pop. Now country radio needs to show a quicker response to her superb new single "Don't!", her label (for once) needs to make a concerted promo effort, and fans will hopefully make her "Greatest Hits" CD their choice for Valentine's Day gifts.
January 17: Shania's new "Dont!" single officially goes to country radio today, but was available to stations last week. "Don't!" charts at #39 with 325 spins, +272 for the week (#6 among singles) with a small audience/spin so far, added at 71/116 stations. Ahead of radio, Shania's incredible new "Don't!" video is playing on CMT, CMT Canada, and (barely at) GAC. Please start to REQUEST "Don't!" NOW. Many stations are still playing PFT, but since it's falling faster than "Don't! is rising, ALL fans please request Shania's "Don't!" single. Shania's "Hits" CD has sold amazingly well with little radioplay and promotion (certified for 3 million in sales), but "Don't!" is the knockout single nobody's heard yet... "Party For Two" remains Shania's single at AC stations, at #17 today (336 spins, just +19 for the week). Hot AC and pop support remains nonexistent. Please REQUEST at country, AC & Hot AC, and Top 40 stations. Large metro area radio Request Links plus Shania's top "Don't!" stations... Note: A few small/mid market Clear Channel stations have added "Don't!", which doesn't mean much yet (an "add" doesn't mean meaningful spins). Large markets are needed now. Clear Channel "corporate" intentionally refused to support PFT or any recent Shania single from Up!. Their unacceptably close to "blacklist" behavior must be addressed now so Shania's "Don't!" single is played on musical merit and audience demand at all stations. Most of her audience still remains unaware of Shania's new "Hits" CD. Word-of-mouth recommendations and gifts of her "Hits" CD are other great ways to support Shania.
January 14: You can buy Shania's new "Greatest Hits" CD on sale this week for $10 USD at Target and Circuit City stores, but only through tomorrow Jan 15. At Target look on the best-seller rack/country near the floor or in Shania's alphabetical bin... Target is about the only mass-merchant that also has her new "Shania Twain: Up! Close & Personal" DVD visibly in stock, now on sale for $15.
January 14: Shania's "Party for Two" & NEW "Don't!" on Video Countdowns -- CMT Top 20 countdown #5 (2 weeks #1); Fan-voted GAC Top 20 Countdown #13 (6 weeks #1)... VOTE for Shania's NEW "Don't!" Video now on the GAC Top 20 ballot; M3 Canada Top 20 Countdown "Don't!" debuts at #15, PFT #4 (2 weeks #1) & Fan-voted M3 Top 10 daily dominant #1... Also VOTE for Shania's NEW "Don't!" Video now on the M3 Top 10 ballot; CMT Canada Top 20 Countdown "Don't!" #17 debut (PFT 2 weeks #1), and Shania's NEW "Don't!" Video slips to #2 on Fan-voted Big 12 daily (VOTE NOW). Please Request Shania new "Don't!" Video at video channels CMT, GAC, CMT Canada and also M3 Canada. Thanks.
January 13: Weekly Charts -- Shania's "Greatest Hits" album sold 69,000 copies (down 31%), rising five spots to #7 on the USA all-genre/pop album chart, and remains #1 country for the 9th straight week since release. In Canada, Shania's "Greatest Nits" remains #3 all-genre (5 weeks #1) with sales of 8,700, and again easily remains the #1 country album... Shania's "Party For Two" country radio single drops one to #15 (with bullet) at Billboard, and moves to #2 recurrent single at R&R. Shania's NEW "Don't!" single officially goes for adds Jan 17, but was fifth most added single (15 stations) last week. PFT rises one to #16 on the Billboard mainstream AC chart ("airpower" spin level), but remains at #19 (bullet) at R&R. Still no activity at HAC or CHR (won't be any now for this single)... Canadian Radio: At country radio Shania's "Party For Two" drops three to #15, at AC down three to #6, and at Hot AC remains at #10 (with bullets at all three formats). PFT drops one to #2 on the all-genre airplay "Hits" chart (6 weeks #1). Nothing at Top 40/pop... Shania's new "Don't!" single & video are simply brilliant. "Don't!" can be a cross-format smash (dobro included), and will be serviced to other radio formats eventually. International fans can expect "Don't!" at radio and video channels soon.
January 13: CBC's three-hour live telecast of "Canada For Asia" to support relief efforts for the tsunami victims airs tonight at 7pm ET. Hall-of-Fame artist and co-organizer Tom Cochrane relayed that Shania was in New Zealand and she expressed her regrets (that she could not attend) but would be making a "sizeable" donation. For more information or to make a donation, visit www.canadaforasia.ca or call 1-800-990-2630.
January 12 (11): A very slooooow sales week at music retail last week. Official numbers are in today, very close to yesterday's estimates. Shania's "Greatest Hits" album sold 69,000 copies (down 31%), rising five spots to #7 on the USA all-genre/pop album chart, and remains #1 country for the 9th straight week since release. Overall album sales were down 33%, with most of the top 10 declining 40-50%... In Canada, Shania's "Greatest Nits" remains #3 all-genre (5 weeks #1) with sales of 8,700 (down 46%), and again easily remains the #1 country album... In December 2004, Shania's "Hits" was certified for 3 million in USA sales, 600,000 in Canada, and another 1 million in sales across Europe.
January 10: One of Shania's most endearing qualities is her genuine humility and down-to-earth personality. Everyone who gets to know her comes away with the same warm impression. An Extra TV viewer recently wrote in and asked co-host Mark McGrath: "How was it doing "Party For Two" with Shania? Did you know her before the video?" Mark's answer (he's still a fan, and now Shania's a friend)...
January 10: Shania is considered to have the second "most appealing speaking voice" with 19% of the vote according to a new poll, just behind CBC news anchor Peter Mansbridge (22%) and ahead of CTV anchor Lloyd Robertson (17%). The poll was conducted by Workopolis, Canada's leading provider of recruitment and job search solutions. "The top three voices chosen by Canadians - Peter Mansbridge, Shania Twain and Lloyd Robertson - all convey a sense of confidence, composure and personality," said Patrick Sullivan, President of Workopolis. "These are characteristics that would serve job seekers well at every stage of their job hunt, as well as on the job." Quebeckers were most taken by the sound of Shania's tones, with 38% citing her voice as the most appealing.
January 9: Shania won for "Favorite Country Female Singer" at the 31st Annual People's Choice Awards tonight. Congratulations to Shania and thanks to her fans for your continued support! Shania was one of many stars unable to attend the ceremony this year. She is currently on another continent spending much-needed time with her husband and toddler son, (and this year will be) working on her new charity, and writing songs for her next all-new studio album.
January 8: Many Shania fans are familiar with constant deception by CMT, the industry, genre, and her own label -- "using" Shania's name to attract audience and promote other acts. Same old false advertising for this week's lame CMT Insider gossip/news show (schedule at Shania TV, but not hyped here). Shania does not appear to talk about her new "Don't!" video. No behind-the-scenes footage. Instead a label employee talks for a few seconds about Shania's location filming. To save you the annoyance of watching 28 minutes of drivel you don't care about, here is the brief transcript about Shania's gorgeous, passionate new "Don't!" video.
January 6: Shania's NEW "Don't!" RADIO SINGLE officially goes for adds at country stations on Monday, January 17. Fans can start to REQUEST next week, when it should pick up some early airplay. Shania's amazing "Don't!" video is at the "country" video channels now (CMT, GAC, and CMT Canada).
January 5: Try as we might, ignoring media, industry, and organizational ignorance doesn't seem to work. The disinformation never stops. With the blind regurgitation of incomplete (Pollstar) tour data covering only North American concerts in 2004, the spate of recent articles have totally misrepresented Shania's #1 Up! tour, since none of her (29) European tour dates were included (also unclear that Pollstar included grosses from all Shania's North American dates). Shania is the only genre superstar who can even tour and sell out concerts across Europe. Both the CMA and her label have been repeatedly lazy, deceitful, and/or inept in their press releases, and have no excuse not to report their artist and industry news accurately. As reported here a month ago (and six months before that), Shania's 2003-04 UP! World Tour spanned (113) concerts from September 25, 2003 - July 10, 2004. Her record-breaking #1 country/top 5 pop tour grossed $105 million USD. Shania would have ranked higher, but she had to delay and shorten the international leg of her tour. Shania had the #1 country tour/#3 pop tour just for her concerts in 2004 -- not counting her (42) tour dates in late 2003. To repeat, in reporting "top tours" of 2004 (with different calendar and non-calendar "years"), most media have simply acted as PR puppets (ignoring reality) to trumpet other country acts whose tours finished far behind Shania's, just for concert dates in 2004. Shania's Up! tour as a whole grossed well over twice as much as any other country act and she sold 400,000 plus more tickets than anyone in the genre. The media has also misreported Shania's 2004 overall earnings, since neither Pollstar nor any other source knows the details of her contracts or royalty rates for her albums. Confidential, but her artist royalty is as high as anyone in music, her songwriter/publisher revenues were not included, and a reported earnings figure is totally false/low and pure speculation. Shania's brand new "Greatest Hits" album was the #4 best selling genre CD of 2004 (albums #1-3 were released 3-10 months earlier). And her "Come On Over" and "Up!" CDs set new records in 2004...
Selected 2004 Shania highlights (most never mentioned or misreported by US media): Dominant #1 country & top 5 all-genre tour; First woman with 3 consecutive USA diamond albums (The Woman In Me; Come On Over, Up!); First/only woman with a double diamond 20M USA album certification for "Come On Over," the #1 country album and #1 female all-time, and #6 seller all-time (with albums from 30 years ago); Shania's new Greatest Hits," despite sabotage by her own label, still sets a record for #1 country "greatest hits" debut sales (#2 pop all-time), and is already 3X platinum in the USA and 6X platinum in Canada; Shania's Up! album is now "double diamond"/20X platinum in Canada; (3) more BMI Songwriter Awards including Song of the Year (Forever And For Always); Inducted into European and German Walks of Fame; #18 in public vote of Greatest Canadians ever from all professional fields; another Juno Award (Canada); Bambi Award and Echo Award as Best International Female Artist (Germany); Best Live Country Performance Award (France); voted sexiest woman in country music... Shania was the true "Entertainer of the Year" again, regardless of what biased Nashville publicists, media hacks, or a bigoted membership clique (CMA) wants you to believe... And there is no measure for compassion. Throughout her career Shania has quietly been a driving force behind the continued growth and success of national programs which help feed hungry children. Shania and her fans again raised funds to combat childhood hunger at every concert on her tour through merchandise sales, auctions, contests, and donations. Shania is also delving intensely into new charity work this year in addition to mom/family time and writing songs for her next studio album.
January 4: Shania's NEW "Don't!" VIDEO premiered Dec 30, and is now playing at CMT, CMT Canada, and starting today at GAC. One of Shania's most beautiful and poignant ballads ever, the video elegantly captures its message and tone through Shania's naturally emotive acting, and subdued cinematography highlights her stunning beauty, passion, and riding skills through an amazing landscape and mystical architecture. Please REQUEST Shania's "Don't" Video!... "Don't!" radio add date tba soon.
January 1: Shania's Video Ranks on CMT Canada's Top 50 Videos of 2004 -- "When You Kiss Me" #2; "Party For Two" #18; "She's Not Just A Pretty Face" #36; "It Only Hurts When I'm Breathing" #50... Shania's Videos on GAC's Top 50 Videos of 2004 (fan-voted) -- "Party For Two" #8; "When You Kiss Me" #19; "It Only Hurts When I'm Breathing" #30.
January 1, 2005: Shania's "What Made You Say That?" was selected #1 on CMT "20 Greatest First Videos." The show includes a brief new Shania interview clip and comments from several record execs (guess which one has no clue). Well deserved, since that special charisma and sparkle was evident from the start, and Shania has always been a pioneer both on-screen and behind-the-scenes for all her videos (concept, production, direction, and editing), and this was an important video for the genre and women artists in general. This was the video that prompted Mutt Lange to contact Shania about writing songs together, which led to their destined romance and marriage just six months later... The hypocrisy is that CMT US refused to support Shania until her fifth video, after her smash single "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?" (which they refused to play) from "The Woman In Me" CD had already made her a superstar. At the time, Shania was named Rising Video Star by defunct CMT Europe, under separate management.
December 30: Shania's "When you Kiss Me" video was voted the #1 video on Canada's MuchMoreMusic Top 10 Countdown for 2004, with her new "Party For Two" at #10 (results based on their fan-voted Daily Top 10)... Shania's "Party For Two" ranks #9 on CMT's Top 20 Year-end Countdown. PFT spent the past two weeks at #1, but has not been out long enough to accumulate more weeks in the Top 10-20, or it would have finished top 5 for the year. With Shania's incredible new "Don't!" Video premiering, it's now time to REQUEST "Don't!" at the relevant video channels. Thanks.
December 30: Shania's NEW "Don't!" VIDEO premieres tonight during CMT's year-end Top 20 countdown. Look for Shania's video late (final 30-45 min) during the show, which airs from 6-8:30pm & 10pm-12:30am ET/PT... and new to the CMT playlist next week.
December 28: Happy Anniversary to Shania and her husband Robert John "Mutt" Lange, who were married on this date in 1993 at Deerhurst Resort near Huntsville, Ontario. You're still the one...
December 29: Shania's "Greatest Hits" album drops one to #5 on the latest USA all-genre album chart, despite an 11% sales increase to 347,000 copies, and remains #1 country for the 7th week, as her CD has every week since release. 11% was about average for the week, but rather disappointing versus 30% plus for several other mega-hyped albums. In Canada, Shania's "Hits" remains #1 all-genre for the fourth straight week (5th overall) with tba copies sold. Once again her parent label "rigged" the results through better advertising, lower/wider sale pricing, and omnipresent retail (and online) visibility for the artists' CDs they favor. Other labels did the same for their top acts. Every CD that outsold Shania's "Hits" has had many times the radio audience, 2-3 times the video audience, a stream of TV ads, plus more TV specials and appearances (targeted to their audience). And again, not a single Internet ad for Shania's new CD, and virtually no TV ads ever. Bad weather and travel delays in the Midwest probably also had some effect on Shania's and country sales in general.
Happy Holidays: All the best to Shania's fans. Thanks for the amazing support again this year. Share Shania's music to help brighten the holidays (still time to pick up her "Greatest Hits" CD for the music fans on your gift list)... Wishing you a blessed and joyful holiday season, hopefully with family and close friends. May we also be mindful of those who have no company or can't make it home to loved ones this year...

"Shania Twain's Greatest Hits" releases on November 9, 2004 (November 8 in most international territories). Shania's album contains 21 songs: 17 of her biggest hits - including nine #1, three top 5, and three top 10 singles from her diamond albums "The Woman In Me," "Come On Over," and "UP!", plus 4 fabulous NEW tracks/3 NEW songs. "Party for Two," the first single to radio, was just recorded in two versions (one with Sugar Ray's Mark McGrath, the other with country labelmate Billy Currington). Both versions of the single and video at stations and video channels now. "I wanted to put together all of my favorite songs from over the years for a fun, high energy album. This record is exactly that, as well as a dedication to all of the passionate fans that have enjoyed and supported me throughout the years," remarked Shania. Track List & Notes: * denotes single released to country radio only. All Shania singles released to retail topped the genre sales charts... Preview tracks in streaming audio. Most amazing, many of Shania's best tracks have never been released, which is why music lovers should own each of Shania's last three albums.

A few more words from Shania about the new songs on her "Greatest Hits" CD coming November 9. Her new hit single "Party For Two" (at radio now) comes in two versions, plus these two other new tracks -- "That's why we're craving the new confections, which will also include the ballad "Don't!" and "I Ain't No Quitter," a country foot stomper harking back to her twangier days. "These songs would've been the beginning of my next record," says Twain. "They're really strong, and I've got mixed feelings, because it would've been great to have that power behind [an all-new] album. But I need the space to write and I don't want to disappear for another two years." That's okay -- junkies for hooks that we are, we'll take our fix in whatever dribs and drabs Twain offers." (CW, Entertainment Weekly, Sept 25 issue)... Note: Shania actually disappeared from public life for three years between her albums "Come On Over" and "UP!". She took the third year after giving birth to her son Eja in 2001. (September 17)
Label press release also referred to her recent #1 ranked UP! Tour, but only the $80 million from her North American concerts; revenues from her 29 European dates are not included. Based on reports to date, Shania's UP! Tour grossed nearly $105 million.
Shania's complete "Up! Close & Personal" DVD with new songs and behind-the-scenes bonus footage will also be released on November 9, 2004 (Nov 8 in Europe, Region 2/PAL). A short "edited" version of this special aired in November 2003 on NBC (and later on CBC). Shania performed a dozen of her best songs with all new arrangements, and shared candid, funny, and poignant moments with the intimate audience. Track List below. This DVD includes selected Shania hits from her Up!, Come On Over, and The Woman In Me CDs, fan favorites, plus a Shania-tastic cover of the AC/DC classic "You Shook Me All Night Long" ... But only eight songs aired on TV. Nobody has seen Shania perform the other four songs or the exclusive bonus footage including a Shania interview, behind the scenes footage, and fan commentary. Shania's superb backing band for the evening was Alison Krauss & Union Station, with special guest Hardy Hemphill from her own touring band.
