Cirith Gorgor Interview answered by Lord Mystic 03-27-03 Cirith Gorgor are an extreme black metal band from The Netherlands. They have been around since the end of year 1993. Their lyrics are inspired by the hate against organised religion, darkness, mythology, witchcraft, and authors like Tolkien. First show was April 26, 1997 in Rotterdam Netherlands. They are still going strong and have yet to assault America live. Here I had a chat with bassist Lord Mystic through email. Darkened Zine - Thanks for taking the time to answer my interview for Darkened Zine, I appreciate it man. So any big news or tours for the band coming up? Lord Mystic - The honour is entirely our_ As a matter of fact, we have just returned from a ten-day European tour, which we did together with the German Black Metal band Mor Dagor. We played in France, Belgium, Holland, Germany and Austria, and it generally was quite a successful tour, as well as it was a damn great experience! We had a great time and had lots of beer with the guys from Mor Dagor. This was also our very first tour, in fact, we had merely played in Holland and Belgium before the tour, so this was a great opportunity to spread the Cirith Gorgor plague further across Europe. The latest news is that we have decided to stop performing for several weeks, probably months even, mainly because we want to focus on rehearsing and writing new material, for we do want to record a new full-length album later this year. DZ - Who started Cirith Gorgor and do you think this person is more in charge of the way this band runs? And also how long have you guys been playing together. LM - The person, or rather persons, who founded the band are actually no longer part of Cirith Gorgor. In late 1993 two former Cirith Gorgor guitar players formed this band but they have left due to varying reasons. Levithmong, our drummer, and me are the two who have been in the band the longest now, but there is not one person in the band who is in charge as you put it. We all have an equally sized role in the band, which means every individual contributes something to the band, and this varies from arranging gigs to writing lyrics and music. DZ - Are there alot of gigs you play in the Netherlands where you are from, and do you play here in America at all? LM - We did most of our gigs in The Netherlands, that is definitely true, however, hopefully this is going to change, for we surely want to play more in countries we still have not visited. I doubt if we will ever come to America, I think it simply costs too much for a relatively small band as Cirith Gorgor undoubtedly is. DZ - Shit you guys have lots of fans over here, you'll be able to play here in America sometime I'm sure of it. DZ - On your Unveiling the Essence album, can you explain what your S/T track is about? The music is really vehement and lots of awesome riffs what was your influence. LM - We have always insisted on people to read an interpret the lyrics we write for themselves, also, the lyrics of this particular track were written by former member Astaroth Daemonum, and he always gave the same answers when it came to the meaning or message of a lyric. Most of the lyrics are differently to interpret so one must preferably come to his or her own conclusion. I do not know what the influences were, for I have not composed this track, it was the work of our guitarists. We have always said, we are not so much influenced by anything, e.g. a particular band, but instead, we are inspired by other bands. We do not try to copy other bands but try to make our own sound as much as possible. DZ - What would you say your goal is with Cirith Gorgor and have you achieved it already? LM - We just want to be able to play as much and as long as we like to do, along with the chances of recording an album every now and then. So yes, I think we have already accomplished what we were aiming for, and we intend to continue for many years to come. It is also great to hear from more and more people that they appreciate your music; and these reactions come from all over the world. DZ - So you've just released the new "THROUGH WOODS OF DARKNESS AND EVIL" 7" EP, how is that selling? Is it only available through your website? LM - The EP is selling incredibly well, and the news it was already sold out at the two labels who jointly released it, has recently reached me. I do not know where else it is still available, though I think there are still several distributors around that have some copies left. We also have EP's available which can be ordered directly from the band. More info about this can be found on our official website. DZ - What's on your list of to do things when you are not rehearsing or working on the band? LM - Everybody, except myself (I am still a student), has a job and works the whole week. We usually rehearse twice a week, in the evenings. DZ - If you could sit down and share a nice cold beer with anyone in this world, dead or alive, who would it be and why? LM - No Comment! As long as there is plenty of the liquid gold I am not complaining. DZ - Good answer haha. DZ - That's about it man, the last words are yours, and we look forward to more attacks of total blasphemy from Cirith Gorgor! LM - Thanks for the interview! Discography Mystic Legends... So hows things for the band been. Any plans to release a new album soon. Battles Clarion is one of your best pieces of work yet it is a killer album. About how long have Averse Sefira been around, and what made you decide to play bass guitar. Any other musical projects you are involved in at this moment? What bands are you really into right now? And any particular bands coming from Texas that you really like? So in your own words what do you think makes Averse Sefira unique and different from other black metal bands around? Which zines would you recommend for metal fanatics out there to get a hold of that you think are worthy of reading. So which bands have you greatly enjoyed touring with in the past and who would you like to tour with sometime in the future? Where do you see Averse Sefira in 10 years, and what would you say your main goal is. I think that's about all the questions I have for now. Thanks again for your time dude. Is there anything else you would like to say? THE QUEER QUESTIONS. So who puts on your makeup? And why doesn't your drummer wear corpse paint, does he think it is for fags? What is the most fucked up thing you've done under the influence of drugs or alcohol? Is your guitarist/vocalist starting to bald and that is why he went skinhead style....you can tell us the truth. What is you or the bands favorite beer and why? Have any of these last questions pissed you off?
