Welcome to the CHILDWIN website. The Child Welfare Initiative is an African initiative to the crisis facing children in Africa. The website contains useful information on the state of the African child, efforts to develop Africa and the ups and the downs involved as well as how you can positively respond to the call to African development. CHILDWIN also undertakes research on various issues especially those that affect children directly. These are economical, social, political or environmental. HIV/AIDS is the single largest killer in Africa. An estimated 800 people die daily of HIV/AIDS in Kenya, one of the countries with the largest concentration of infected people. With 16% of the total population of Kenya infected, and an infection rate of 2%, a solution has to be found very quickly. From the president’s speech at the opening of the Icasa (13th International Conference on Aids and Sexually Transmitted Infections in Africa– Nairobi, September 2003), we learnt that he –and, we assume, his government – has three priorities – ensuring access to antiretrovirals’ in the face of an unhelpful international trade law regime, ending discrimination against people living with HIV/Aids and alleviating poverty. In addition, he acknowledged the disproportionate impact of the disease on women and said that special attention needs to be paid to children orphaned by it. Human immuno-deficiency virus/acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) is a national disaster for the people of Kenya, children and adults alike. Kenya is estimated to have the ninth-highest prevalence of HIV in the world with about 16 percent of the adult population infected. An estimated 1 million orphans in the country represent only a fraction of the population of children affected by AIDS, which includes children withdrawn from school to care for a sick relative, those in families caring for orphans, and those who have had to become breadwinners to replace the income of a sick parent. This is just a sample of what is facing CHILDWIN. We are committed to making the reality of the vision of our government – to built a prosperous Kenya. This is a vision that cannot materialize if we will not invest in the future of our children. With a competent staffing of Christian university graduates in the fields of economics, education, sociology, food nutrition, animal production and geography, we can handle virtually everything a child needs. We have put our careers on the line to serve in this worthy and noble cause. You can be part of our efforts to transform Africa (Kenya in particular) by supporting our ministry in any capacity – volunteer, fundraiser or website hosting or development. Please keep visiting the Child Welfare Initiative website as we are still developing our website. CHILDWIN is involved in child sponsorship programs that enable poor children, as well as university students under the age of 21 years to draw from our scholarship fund. The child welfare initiative seeks to empower children and the community where they live to grow in a stress free atmosphere that is a recipe for successful individuals. Individuals who can be trusted to lead the society into Godly freedom. To read more about who we are, please download a copy of our constitution available in word format or in PDF format here.
