Downtime!

We apologize for the extensive downtime. We have improved our servers so this type of problem will never come up again. We now have a fast & reliable chat server.

Fourms reset, the fourms have been reset because of the annoying error message.

Quote for Xander

Welcome, everyone, to the new CentralChat Forums. As you have probably already noticed, nothing has changed about the forum's general appearance, however all forum posts and member accounts have been erased. Fortunately, that annoying error that occasionally prevented users from posting has gone, so now we will have to rebuild the forums to make them what they once were. Firstly, all users must reregister their forum accounts. This can be done by simply pressing the "Signup" button above this post. Nextly, we need to build up the number of posts...if you remember any posts you may have submitted to the old database that you want readed, simply post them again!

I request that everyone please read the below rule:

  • ANYONE caught stealing someone's forum nickname by registering it will be AUTOMATICALLY blocked from the forums and will most likely receive a temporary (possibly permanent) ban from chat. I am not kidding.

Thanks for your patience and understanding in this matter,

~ Xander

So, back to the exciting realm of CC. As you lot know, we've had an awful amount of downtime currently, which we are everso sorry about!

Thankfully, we now have a new server (which you may not notice) which is now more reliable and should stop this downtime occuring again. (Fingers crossed)

In other news, Sammy_Wood has returned after a long absense into the unknown.. or the realms of community repair. Whichever.

We now have a new staffie chap, namely zer0skills, though he's more into the technical server side of things, which I won't go into. (Because I know nothing about it. *cough*)

  • Becca's book of the week

  • 1984 by George Orwell

A masterpiece is one way to describe a novel like this. Chilling, amazing, and indeed a well written classic. First written in 1949, Orwell, the same author who wrote the popular classic Animal farm. Like Animal farm, the story holds Orwell’s own political opinion, on what may come in the uprising of communism.

A satire on the horrors of totalitarianism, "Nineteen Eighty-Four" is set in a society run by Big Brother where people are made to conform to orthodoxy by the Thought Police. Winston Smith yearns for truth and liberty, but he comes to realize that he cannot outwit the forces at work.

It isn't as easy to read as Animal Farm (which also deals with communism) but it is well worth the effort. Its also the book that inspired the mad tv show, ‘Big Brother'

Voted as one of the top 100 books in the BBC’s Big Read, its gonna be at least in the top half of the list in November

Its also great in the theatre, I saw it, and it was fantastic. I cant urge you further to read this book!

    • Harry Potter News

As we all know The Order of the Phoenix comes out on June 21. Unfortunatly I won't be in the country, and won't be able to read it for a while :(

Anyway, for Potter-related festivities, check out your local book store. I know one store near mine, is certainly running some hot chocolate, reading night, prior to the release, so keep your eyes open for other such things near where you live.

JKR Rowling will be appearing at the Royal Albert Hall in london on June 26th. She'll read from Order of Phoenix.

Also, Scholastic is running a competition for all you Americans out there, to win a trip to London. More info is Here

The Uk are also running a similar one, though I can't find any nice easy website link. For more information, go into you local bookstore and pick up and entry form - But be quick! SMTV are running this competition, so check out their website at SMTV

And that'll be all from me.

  • Iguana's song of the week

  •

Today (or rather this week) my song of the week is: Bob Dylan - Knocking on heavens door. You can take your Avril la-whatever versions, but this to me will always be the best recording. That or Guns and Roses. However, due to this infatuation I have with voices, Dylan simply wins my heart over. That, and I dislike Avril's voice. Sorry to all you raging fans out there :)

Poem/short story of the week, user submitted

I'm tired of wanting things I shouldn't desire
I'm tired of being things that I should deny
I'm tired of seeing things the way that I shouldn't
I'm tired of being blinded by things that aren't right.

I'm tired of needing what is out of my clutches
I'm tired of changing into something unknown
I'm tired of caring and being considerate
and I'm tired of being myself, but alone

    but I'm not suicidal
    and I'm not depressed
    I'm just hanging between stages
    longing for some rest
