I can’t think of a single site on the internet that I detest more than 1wrestling.com. That site is the epitome of the word “suck”. In the very near future, you will be able to open up a dictionary, look up “suck”, and see the 1wrestling.com logo as one of the definitions.
There are a good number of reasons why I hate this site so much. Let’s get down to business, because the majority of internet wrestling fans are morons who actually think 1wrestling is the Mecca of the inside wrestling world. These people need to be kicked in the face with a steel-toed boot so they can wake up and see that, indeed, 1wrestling sucks.
First and foremost, I hate those damnable pop-up ads. Yeah yeah, I know you occasionally get a pop-up ad from my site as well, but that’s just ONE ad; that’s not four to seven pop-ups rising up from the depths of hell to clog your computer screen every time you go to any page of the site. Why don’t these cheapskates get a better server where they can actually afford to get a lot of traffic and not have to have pop-ups out the ass? Wrestling Observer gets just as many hits as 1wrestlesuck does, and you don’t see any pop-ups there, do you? If you ever do, it’s a rare occasion, much like the people who write for 1wrestling actually putting forth an objective piece of news.
Secondly, 1wrestling is the home of a very pathetic human being. Actually since I’ll be talking about Dave Scherer later, I guess I should say two pathetic human beings. The pathetic human being which I was first referring to was, of course, Joey Styles. Easily one of the most annoying things about going to 1wrestling (those rare occasions when I go, to find a house show report or something) is seeing the header for Joey Styles’ ridiculous little piece of crap hotline. They are always filled with the corniest, most obnoxious dialogue that is meant to con the innocent into actually paying to listen to what this moron has to say. Here are some examples (all real ones he’s used in the past):
I made that last one up, but I know in the context of the other three bitchfests it was hard to tell. Oh, and the subtext of every hotline summary tells how “Joey shoots like never before” and blah blah blah. You’re supposed to be really impressed by this. Impressed enough to call and pay $1.79 a minute to learn why Joey, back in APRIL, believed that Wrestlemania XX had ALREADY BEEN RUINED. What kind of imbecile would pay to listen to that? Maybe somebody who had just had a lobotomy, but outside of that, no sane person would waste their time. In reality, Joey Styles is just a bitter human being- bitter that his company, ECW, went out of business and that his glory days are over. He makes a big deal about how he “turned down” a job offer from WWE (a real self-righteous individual), and never has anything positive to say about the company at all in his hotline reports- clearly a hateful, biased person who continues to claim to be a wrestling “journalist” (hint: look up what a “journalist” does and whether their job includes implementing “bias” into their work). Loser.
The third thing I hate about this site is the man who runs it. Dave Scherer is, to be blunt, an asshole. A miserable, much fatter version of Joey Styles, and equally as hateful and biased. And, equally, he claims to be a “journalist”. Frankly I think the majority of wrestling “journalists” need to look the word up, because they all suck at being objective. Dave Scherer used to be objective; at a time when I considered Dave Meltzer and Wade Keller absolute scum, Scherer alone remained a true journalist and rarely had a hateful comment for any wrestler.
Somewhere along the way, objectivity and integrity went out the window, however.
You can’t read Dave’s trash on 1wrestlejoke for one full week without seeing him take some inane, spiteful shot at a) Any member of the McMahon family, b) wrestling websites outside of his own, or c) Triple H. To all of the sheep out there, 1wrestling is a godsend simply because of reasons “a” and “c”. To everybody with a brain, though, 1wrestling is an internet wasteland because of those reasons. It would be semi-tolerable if Scherer would actually back his opinions up with reasons that make sense , but this rarely, if ever, occurs. Take, for instance, the example below, a recent FAQ Dave answered.
Hey, a couple weeks ago I was listening to byte this on wwe.com and Triple H really started bashing the internet fans and how they’re “12 year-olds that don’t know anything about the business”. I wanted to know what is 1wrestling.com’s reaction to these comments, and what first made internet fans start hating Triple H anyway?
My reaction is that H used the same, tired argument that people in the public eye use toward the media whenever they don’t like what is written about them. It’s a crutch and a lame attempt of a defense that has been proven to be rubbish time and time again. H’s line of thinking would mean that just because we don’t know how to cook, we can’t tell what food tastes good, or that because we never wrote a book we don't know a good one when we read them. It's BS. He tries to say that the writers as kids as a way to minimize what they are saying. It's easier than him trying to defend how all of WWE's major business indicators are down 25 to 100%.
Someone who is getting hammered by the press uses those arguments to try and discredit those who write things about them that they don’t like, but most times they just make themselves look like idiots for saying it. Of course, H was smart enough to say it on the company show, where he knew no one would call him on it.
Some point to the feeling toward HHH changing back when he started seeing Stephanie McMahon, feeling that with more power at his disposal he used it to better his own career. I didn’t turn on him then because he was still working hard and having very good to great matches. I turned on him when he tore his quadriceps muscle and came back way too big and nowhere near the worker he once was, but was fierce about keeping his spot. I feel that he used his power behind the scenes to hold other, deserving talent down. That helped make the Raw brand stale and drove its ratings into the lows that they presently occupy. That is what did it for me.
Oh please. First, the man flat-out admits that he hates Triple H now- yet imbeciles will continue to actually neglect to think that anything he writes about Hunter is unbiased, and take it as the gospel, like the dimwits they are. Secondly, Dave’s argument in this FAQ is so easy to counter that is pitiful. Let’s try looking at Hunter’s comments “logically” (in other words, differently from the way Dave looked at them).
Triple H isn’t trying to “defend” himself by simply saying that all the writers are kids to “minimize what they are saying”; more like he’s MOCKING these morons by saying the majority of the immature garbage they write about him (i.e. the constant bashing of every little thing he does, the way he walks, his relationship with Steph, all the inane little comments Dave and others fit in about him in their “news” reports) has the mentality of a 12-year-old behind it. The writers themselves might not “be” 12, but they damn sure ACT 12, and those comments are Hunter’s own way of saying he thinks they’re a bunch of idiots with no credibility that need to grow up- and he’s exactly right. I’ve yet to see a negative opinion about Triple H on the internet that either isn’t a) written by some smart-ass, hateful know-it-all mark, or b) easy to argue with. And to date, Scherer’s comments on Triple H have often fit into both categories. You might be 40-something, Dave (and look 50-something), but some of the stuff I’ve seen you write- your e-mail replies to well-thought-out arguments, for one thing- make you come off like a 12 year old. Thank god we have that *wonderful* photo of you (see the Pictures page) to prove your advanced years to us.
And that is why Scherer sucks as a “journalist”. He can’t actually think about what a wrestler really means when they say something, especially if it’s a wrestler he hates. He takes it at face value and fires back with stupid shit like that FAQ. He says Triple H’s comments about net-writers being 12-year-olds are “lame” and “BS”, but then he takes petty shots at everything Triple H says and does, even his Stacker II commercial. If Hunter has five minutes of air-time on Raw, Dave says it was “too long”. This is a sad, sorry man with a pitiful vendetta against somebody he doesn’t even know personally.
Even wrestlers who Scherer praises all the time think that he sucks. Take Rob Van Dam, for instance. Darling Dave is never lacking praise for RVD in his columns, but RVD himself has professed to think that Dave and his site are full of crap. Here are words on the subject, straight from Rob’s own mouth in a recent radio interview:
“When I first got into the WWE… 1wrestling.com’s writer kept telling me how foolish I was for thinking I was going to get into the WWE.” RVD claims that the writer (never mentioned by name) wrote that in the office he and the other staff members would laugh about how they thought Rob was “burying himself”. Rob thought it was funny that the writer thought he had any say in anything whatsoever; because his job is just to report the news. Talk turns to when Rob “went round and round” with the same site when they claimed he was injured filming Black Mask 2, and Rob was saying that he was fine. “That’s the thing, if it’s coming out of my mouth and I’m telling you I’m fine. How can someone argue with me and say ‘No you’re not. You are not fine’”.
Yep, even RVD thinks 1wrestling sucks, Dave.
Further into the subject of Dave Scherer, the man is a sexist piece of crap. Everytime I or friends of mine who are female have tried to send him some feedback, no matter how politely it was worded or how well thought-out and logical it was, we were blown off with smart-ass replies. My friends had to e-mail this cretin under fake men’s names like “John” or “Pat” to get him to give them a decent reply. What a pig!
Dave Scherer (temporarily) aside, the other thing I hate about 1wrestlepiss is their premium section. A friend of mine made the mistake of subscribing to this awhile back (and regrets it now), and was generous enough to let me use her screenname and password so I could see it for myself (since I’d never give two cracked pennies to the Scherer Regime). Let me tell you, this premium section is a joke. Really the only benefit you get from it is not having anymore pop-up ads. Outside of that, it’s a bunch of crap. Here is a special exclusive preview of exactly what the “premium” section looks like, ripped straight off the site:
Wow. Amazing, isn’t it? You can pay either $5 a week or $40 a year to get nothing but a section filled with a bunch of audio shows with know-it-alls spouting off their biased garbage. On top of that, there won’t be any pop-ups! Hell, at least when you subscribe to the Torch, their premium members’ section has LOADS of options and archived interviews and articles, not just a page filled with TRASH. To think that people actually pay to sit at their computer and be brainwashed by Dave Scherer’s voice resonating through their speakers- much like listening to an old Hitler speech at an SS rally- is positively bloodcurdling.
But, I understand that not everybody agrees with me, and some people very well may want to join this premium section after seeing that preview. If you are one of those, all you have to do is send a check for $39.95 for a year’s subscription to:
1Wrestling.com P.O. Box 66686 Baton Rouge, LA 70886
Nice P.O. Box, by the way, Dave. Is that 666 a coincidence? I think not.
That pretty much wraps it up. Dave Scherer is Satan, Joey Styles is a whiny human cesspool, the premium section is a rip-off, and gratuitous pop-ups are evil.
1wrestling.com sucks.
