Aeonshelle

Physical World

Deities

There are nine True deities of Aeonshelle, spanning three generations, and representing each of the nine alignments. The Gods are not supreme beings, merely intensely powerful creations of a forgotten race. Long before the current races existed, another species (now referred to as the 'ancients') populated the planet. Their magic was phenomonally strong, but had adverse effects on their people; fewer and fewer children were being born, people began sickening and dyig in odd ways. In a bid to prevent extiction, the ancients performed a vast magic to combine all the remaining forms into three beings. They distilled their natures into "Good" and "Evil" and created a third, for Balance. These three beings - Yaranon, Nuha and Khalid - had all the souls, power and life force of the thousands of remaining ancients. Over the ages, Nuha bore two children each to Yaranon (Alaethia and Deon) and Khalid (Hothan and Thrae). Aleatha and Hothan then produced a son; Rueesh, as did Deon and Thrae; Orloth. The life force called upon and reshaped by these magics warped the world, giving rise to proto-races that would eventually become the five(/six) races now populating the planet.

Demi-Gods

These nine beings at times took mortals as lovers or companions. Usually any offspring were destroyed before they could come to strength, but a few survived in secret, with vast powers comparable only to the 'True Gods'. These powerful beings were essentially immortal; their bodies would not age, nor be susceptible to disease or physical damage, but were born sterile, which was not reversible by any currently known means. False deities also arose, created by priests of various species greedy for power and money. These preists sometimes set up temples to worship the demi-gods, but more often created imaginary gods pretending they'd been 'born' to one of the deities. Some of these religios have proved lasting and grown powerful, despite the lack of evidence for their central figure (see Noted Organisations)
