The Wonderful World of Shannara

This site is dedicated to the writings of the New York Times Bestselling Author Terry Brooks. I had come down out of Kennon Pass, traveled along the Mermidon River for the past three days. I saw the firelight from a good mile off. He was camped next to the bank, the Shroudslip was visible in the distance. I tried to keep hidden as I approached the fire. I did not no if he was friend or foe. "Welcome friend, I'm glad you decided to drop in. Come sit by the fire and enjoy its warmth," he greeted me. I didn't know how he knew I ws there. I had kept carefully hidden in the shadows. I walked into his camp. It was very orderly. He was an old elf and he carried a great longbow. "Thank you," I replied," I am on a quest." He looked up, there were deep lines etched in his face. He had seen many hardships. " I am a tracker for Hymar, Queen of the Elves. She has sent me to recover the Staff of Lontar from the Wilderun. I'm journeying back after my entire party was lost to the creatures that live there," there was a note of sorrow in his voice as he spoke. I nodded with understanding. " I am from Paranor. I have studied with the druids for the past decade. I am an elementalist, I draw my magic from the earth, air, fire, and water. I was sent to find an Old World book of magic said to be hidden in the Matted Brakes," I felt the need to relate my quest to him. I knew he could help. " We both need our sleep," he said. With that we both asleep within minutes. When I awoke he was gone, but his pack was still there. I searched the area around his camp and found no tracks. I moved to his pack, it was oddly light. When I opened it I found the book I was looking for and a small lantern had an odd, flameless glow. I took the pack with me.I set out that morning for Paranor to find I was well rested, even though I had not gone to sleep until after midnight. That day's journey was uneventful. I set camp in a grove of ash near the city of Kern, not wanting to attempt to cross the Mermidon at night. It was yet again a dreamless sleep. I awoke to find the man sitting across from, " I believe you have my lantern." I stared in disbelieve. "How did you find me?Why are you not in Arborlon? May I keep the book?" the sudden ammount of questions starlted him."I'm a tracker remember. You may keep the book and I am not in Arborlon because of reason known only to me." And with that we crossed the Mermidon and traveled up through the Dragon's Teeth......
