***************************

Universal Guardian took a stance in front of the youma, protecting her friends Angel and Heero. She glared at the creature. “I won’t let you hurt them!”

The creature reeled back and hissed at her.

“That’s what you think!” another voice cried out from the side.

Ariel and the couple turned to look towards where it came from.

Immediately, three daggers shot out from behind a black cloak, slashing through the fair skin of the Universal Guardian’s exposed abdomen.

Her eyes widened in shock and in pain. Her pupils darkened as her arms wrapped themselves around her body, gasping out in pain. She stood for a few seconds, legs wobbling, ready to give way underneath her. The gleam in her eyes vanished completely as she dropped to her knees briefly and then collapsing to the side. The crimson blood poured from her wounds.

Angel cried out as she grabbed onto Heero’s arm. The blonde then ran out towards the fallen warrior, her best friend, lifting her lifeless body in her arms, staining her own green baby tee-shirt. Tears were streaming down her face as Heero’s shocked look turned to one of complete anger.

Heero knelt down beside them, staring at the girl in his beloved’s arms. Anger was beginning to flow through his blood. He turned around, pulling out his gun and aiming at the caped villain. “How dare you?!?” He steadied his aim, ready to shoot. His face was serious.

Angel placed the girl gently on the ground, standing up behind him, anger and hurt evident in her eyes.

The dark figure laughed at the man in front of it. “You think?!” It sneered. “NOW!!”

Heero was ready to pull the trigger when a shot rang out from the other side of them. They turned to see a figure, pushing them out of the way as the bullet went through its stomach. It was the Universal Guardian...Ariel.

“DAMN!” The cloaked figure yelled. “Let’s go!” The youma left with the figure.

Ariel briefly looked over at Heero and Angel, tears brimming her dark eyes. She managed to give a weak smile to Heero before collapsing into a bloody heap on the concrete.

He released all the un-shot bullets, followed by the gun itself. A gun did shoot -- only it wasn’t his.

Angel froze. She knew Heero didn’t shoot. Ariel has pushed them out of the way. The weak smile showed her that Ariel was only doing what she did best: protecting those she loved. Tears streamed down her face as she stared at the limp body, helpless. She saw Heero get up from the ground where they landed when they were pushed to safety. He was pale-faced and ran to the girl, dropping to his knees and grabbing her shoulders, shaking them slightly before wrapping his arms around her, bending his head down and let out an exasperated, soul-wrenching cry. Tears streamed down his handsome face.

Angel was overwhelmed by the sudden events and at Heero’s unsuspected reactions. She knelt down beside him, placing a hand gently on his shoulder, tears flowing from her face as well.

He looked up at her, not hiding his mask. His eyes held hers. “She saved me...” He shook his head. “She risked her life...any chance of survival to save me.”

Angel’s teary eyes looked at the love of her life, nodding. “Yes, she did. And she would have done it again without thinking twice.”

They looked at each other, deeply, tears continued to fall. He looked down at the body of what used to be the Universal Guardian. He picked her up with him as he stood. Her head fell back, blood dripping everywhere. He took a few steps with a crying Angel.

He froze in his tracks when he heard a small moan. His eyes widened as he looked down. The same process was repeated by Angel. His eyes teared up again as she got the slight energy to speak. “I’m always with you. I’ll guarantee it. Believe in me...in life and...” There was a slight gasp. “...and in death.”
