Ariel smiled to herself as she looked at the full-length mirror on the door of the bathroom in the apartment she shared with Duo and Heero. She smoothed down the short spaghetti-stapped black velvet dress that she was wearing, blushing a little at how the material clung to her curves, caressing them in the most enticing ways. Ever since Heero told them that he was going to be out of town for the night on an assignment a week ago, she had been planning on a romantic evening with the man she loved more than life itself. She had spent the entire day preparing for a night of romance with Duo- dinner, candlelight, music, the works. Now, she was just making herself look pretty enough to capture more of his undying attention.
She sighed softly as her brown eyes caught sight of the small clock on the wall by the medicine cabinet. "6:15," she spoke quietly to herself as she ran her fingers through her long dark brown hair before pulling it back and up, securing it with a small silver clip. "He should be getting home soon." With that, she looked herself over once more, nodded in approval and walked out of the bathroom.
Glancing over the apartment, she felt herself getting nervous. The lights were on very dimly and there were scented candles all over, filling the living room with a mix of roses and strawberries trailing into the her and Duo's bedroom as well as towards the kitchen. She moved over to the peek inside the bedroom once more, smiling as the tiny flames flickered about, creating tiny dancing shadows on the walls. "I'd love to stay here and watch but I've got to make sure that everything is set in the kitchen," she spoke to herself as she turned around and walked out, closing the door slightly on the way to let the soft scents fill the room.
Her black stiletto heels clicked against the tile floor of the kitchen. The table was dressed up in fine white lace and had set ups for two. A bottle of white zinfandel was placed in a bucket filled with ice. Next to it, there was a crystal vase holding red, pink and white roses. Ariel smiled softly as she gently touched the petals, finding the bond to them since they were one of the many powers she possessed of her true identity. She glanced at the white taper candle, burning brightly in between the two china setups.
Ariel turned towards the oven and opened it, pulling out the ceramic bowl that was filled with homemade spaghetti and meatballs. She grabbed a basket filled with sliced Italian bread and put it on the table along with the pasta. Within minutes, she made sure that everything was set up and then sat down at the table, silently watching the clock as the seconds ticked by for her beloved Duo to arrive.

Duo parked his motorcycle in the garage, grinning as he took off his helmet and hung it on its hook on the wall. He had been waiting the entire week for this day to come just so he could show Ariel how much he loved her. Yet, now that the day had finally arrived and there was a grin gracing his handsome face, he couldn't help feeling nervous. He pulled out a small black velvet box from the inside pocket of his Preventer's jacket and opened it. His grin softened to a loving smile as he stared at the engagement ring that he had bought for his girlfriend. It was a gold band with a round diamond in the middle. On each side there was a small sapphire stone with two tiny amethyst stones on either side of it. He had gotten it specially made, wanting the sapphires to represent Ariel's true self and the amethysts to represent his eyes watching her and loving her for who she is.
He kissed the ring tenderly before closing the box up and slipping it inside his pants pocket. Walking out of the garage, Duo reached up to pull down the door, locking it securely before he made his way into the apartment complex. He nodded at a few of the neighbors, flashing them his charming grin as he made his way up the stairs. His heart began to pound in his chest as he walked down the hall towards the door, feeling a bit more nervous than he had been in the garage.
Pausing in front of the apartment door, Duo closed his eyes, already sensing that Ariel was up to something. His curiousity managed to settle the butterflies in his stomach as he unlocked the door, pocketing his keys immediately after. His violet eyes went wide as he saw the entire living room being illuminated by candles. He closed the door behind him, smiling softly at the fact that his girlfriend had gone out of her way to make it an obviously romantic night. A grin suddenly made its way onto his face as he realized the mood in the apartment complemented his plans.
Slowly, he made his way towards the bedroom, shaking his head in amusement at how much time Ariel must have spent making the place look perfect. He slipped off his jacket, placing it on its hanger and hanging it on the closet door, smiling as he watched the candles flicker, casting long shadows along all the surfaces in their room. He quickly undid his tie and unbuttoned his shirt, pulling it free from his pants. He tossed both in the hamper against the far wall before turning and pulling out a deep red button-down silk shirt that he had bought with Ariel on one of their many adventurous shopping trips.
He stopped himself from buttoning the shirt since he had decided to change into his black slacks, wanting to look good enough to impress Ariel. He chuckled to himself as he stepped out of his shoes and pushed down his pants, tossing them into the hamper as well. "Ariel says I always look good." He smiled softly, knowing that his girlfriend was always sincere when it came to him. He grabbed his slacks from the hanger in the closet and slipped them on, stepping into his black dress shoes at the same time. He pocketed the black velvet box once again since he had taken it out from his other pants.
Duo started buttoning his shirt, leaving the top button undone before tucking it into his pants and buttoning it up. He slipped on his black belt, buckling it securely as he walked over to the dresser and unbound his long chestnut hair. He picked up his brush and ran it slowly down the entire length, his eyes catching a photograph that the other pilots, more precisely Quatre, had taken of them at the park.
His eyes softened, remembering the day clearly as he began to rebraid his hair. The gang was all together, having a nice picnic at the local park. He had left for a moment, saying he wanted to get something as he kissed Ariel's lips tenderly and moved away from the group. He knew that she was watching him but he reassured her everything was okay with a wink. When she had settled, he disappeared behind a couple of trees and over to a small garden that had yellow and white daisies. He carefully picked several of each color and gathered them in a bunch, producing a blue string from his pocket. He had tied them together and made his way back to the group, holding the bouquet behind his back. He held out a hand for Ariel when she looked up at him, smiling at his return. Gently he had pulled her up, wrapping his arm around her waist. As he kissed her nose, he had pulled the daisies out from behind and gave them to her. Just as she took them in her hands, he twirled her around so he was pressed up against her back, making her giggle in delight. As he nipped her shoulder and chuckled, Quatre had taken the picture, capturing the joy in the couple's eyes.
A smile appeared on his lips as he continued braiding, remembering the flicker of happy emotions gracing her face. They were something that he believed he could never tire of. He quickly finished his braid, securing the tie at the end. He glanced himself over in the mirror, nodding his approval before he walked out of the room, stopping by the door to glance back in the room. "I love the scented candles she chooses. Always adds to the loving mood that fills this place." He closed the door slightly and walked over to the kitchen.

Ariel blinked slowly, a soft blush covering her cheeks as she felt Duo's nearby presence. She knew he had arrived but she was only waiting for him to get settled and go to the kitchen. She lifted her head, turning it at the same time Duo reached the doorway. A loving smile crossed her face as she stood up, walking over to meet him halfway since he had not wasted a second in moving to her. Her eyes drifted close as he slid a finger tenderly along her cheek and gently tilted her chin up. He cupped her face with his hands as their lips met in a slow sweet kiss.
The two slowly pulled away from the kiss, staring deeply into each other's eyes for a long moment. Soft smiles crossed their faces as they read deep into the other's soul, knowing they belonged to none other except their beloved. Duo pulled Ariel into his arms, holding her tightly against him as he nuzzled her neck. He closed his eyes, inhaling the soft flowery scent of her hair. He grinned when she sighed softly, each content at being held in the arms of the one they loved.
Ariel snuggled into the embrace; a smile on her face as she turned her head slightly to look up at Duo as she whispered, "I've been waiting all day for this." She kissed his neck tenderly. "To be in your arms."
Duo tightened his hold on her, kissing her lips softly and whispering in the same quiet tone. "I agree, Babe. I think I would have gone crazy if I had to stay at work longer." He smiled down at her. "And I am glad that I'm here. It looks as if my little princess spent her day in preparations for a romantic evening." He kissed her again, smiling more at the light blush that appeared on her cheeks. "I love the set-up. I love the blush. And I love you."
"I love you too, Du," she smiled up at him before kissing his nose, grinning when he laughed softly at her. "Come on... dinner's gonna get cold." She nuzzled his neck as she reached back and took his hands, bringing them up and kissing his fingers. A mischievous look flickered in her eyes and she turned his hand in hers, placing a gentle open-mouthed kiss on his palm.
His violet eyes darkened, shimmering with love and desire as he watched her. "Vixen," he muttered, giving her a playful glare when she giggled. He watched her pull away from him to turn towards the table, groaning at the naturally seductive sway of her hips. Closing his eyes for a moment, Duo struggled to relax, sighing softly when he settled and then opened his eyes, moving to pull out her chair, letting her sit and gently pushing it back in. He flashed her a sexy grin just as he dropped his head enough to kiss her neck, making her moan softly before he sat down on the chair next to her.
Ariel smiled softly when he reached over to the bowl of spaghetti, serving some on her plate as well as on his before he flashed her a charming grin and then filled up their glasses with the white zinfandel. She watched as the candle light flickered along his skin, making him even more handsome than he already was. Her brown eyes caught his and they raised the glass flutes together. Her voice was soft and quiet as she made a toast "To us... for the love that binds our hearts and our souls together."
Duo winked at her and added. "Now and forever." They clinked their glasses together, taking a sip as their eyes held each other for a long moment. They set their glasses down and he leaned over, kissing her softly and tasting the zinfandel on her lips. He sat back, licking his lips slowly, knowing he had her complete attention. "You taste wonderful Ar..." He smirked darkly when she blushed before he winked at her again and began eating.
She watched him quietly for several moments as she ate. Smiling happily when he praised her cooking many times and giggling when he served himself again. She took a piece of bread, eating it slowly as she felt herself get lost in the love that radiated from him. A soft sigh escaped her lips before she blinked when Duo looked up at her. "Nani?"
He raised an eyebrow slowly, smiling at her. "Care to share your thoughts beautiful lady?" He spread butter on a piece of bread before taking a bite, waiting for her answer.
Ariel's face colored a little but she spoke anyway, knowing that she could never be anything but honest with him. "I was just, uh... reveling in your love, Du." She smiled sheepishly. "I can feel it embracing me, keeping me safe and warm even without you touching me." Her eyes shifted towards her plate, feeling his powerful violet gaze on her.
Duo smiled softly and reached over to take her hand, lifting it up and kissing the back of it. "I feel your love as well, Babe. Even when you're not with me, I feel your heart and soul filling me up. I enjoy that feeling too Ar." He winked at her when she looked up at him, smiling. "And have I mentioned that this food is delicious?" He chuckled when she started laughing softly, enjoying the sound of her laughter.
He lifted his hand to cup her cheek, sighing softly when she turned into it and kissed his palm. "You are so beautiful, Ariel." He whispered, watching her face redden a little before he leaned over to capture her lips in a sweet kiss. When he pulled away, he stared deep into her darkening brown eyes, reading into her soul.
She smiled lovingly at him before gently touching his face and speaking quietly. "I'll clean up the table a bit." Ariel kissed his nose, grinning at his pouting expression. "I'll be quick about it. I promise." She stood and gathered the empty dishes and glasses, carrying them over and into the sink, leaving them there until she put the food away.
Duo stood and took the bowl of spaghetti from her hands. His eyes met hers and he winked before he turned and put it in the refrigerator. He covered the fresh bread and grabbed the bucket of ice with the bottle of zinfandel, ready to put it in the fridge when he stopped. He glanced at Ariel, smiling when she finished washing the two glass flutes and walked up behind her, kissing her neck and whispering, "I'm going to put some music on." He grabbed the two glasses, blowing a kiss to her surprised look before he turned and left the room.
He walked into his and Ariel's bedroom, setting the bucket on the nightstand and placing the two flutes next to it. Glancing around the room once again, Duo smiled, deciding to pull down the covers on their bed before he went into the living room. He turned on the stereo, looking through several CDs before inserting one in and pressing play. Quickly, he walked into the kitchen, seeing Ariel dry her hands on a towel and moving towards her as the soft music filtered in. "May I have this dance, milady?" He offered her his hand.
Ariel smiled softly, slipping her hand into his. "Of course, my love." She let him lead her out of the kitchen and into the living room. She grinned when he lifted their hands over her head, allowing her to twirl for him before he pulled her close, wrapping his arms around her waist as she did around his neck. A soft sigh escaped her lips when the vocals began.

Duo smiled, nuzzling his face in her hair as they swayed to the music. He ran a hand up and down her back, holding her possessively close before closing his eyes, getting lost in her love. His mind kept going back to his constant thoughts of how lucky he was to have her love him. He felt it to be a drug, something that he could never do without - and if that were to happen, he would put himself to rest so he wouldn't have to live without her.
She shifted her face up, kissing his neck tenderly as her eyes finally closed. Ariel smiled a little at the loving feelings she was sensing from him. Never in her life had she felt this important to any person. She had always been alone, despite the close relationship with her co-workers that made them like family to her, she never felt like she belonged. But then came Duo and changed all of that, giving her a reason to wake up each morning.

He opened his dark violet eyes, staring at nothing as they continued to move. A small smirk appeared on his face while he listened to the lyrics. He amazed himself sometimes at how much more he was able to love Ariel each passing day. He loved waking up to next to her, allowing him to appreciate the innocence that she still had despite her horrid past. He loved coming home to see her smiling face, knowing that the soft look allowed him to forget about things that had upset him for a decent amount of time before they sat down to talk about everything and nothing.
Ariel shifted a little, burying her face into his shoulder, her fingers idly running some of the length of his braid. She wished she could just spend the rest of her life in his arms like they were at the moment. There was not a reason to be scared anymore. Duo had managed to relieve her from her fears and worries with his love and understanding. They were strong enough for each other, easily taming the other's wild spirit. He had proved it when he managed to capture her lonely heart and soul with a single look into her eyes. For that, she was grateful.

Duo's thoughts drifted to his mission for the evening. He had been planning on proposing to Ariel for quite some time. The other pilots had been giving him complete support ever since he mentioned it to them. He really was not sure how to go about asking her or even when to ask her until Heero mentioned his several-day mission. His best friend suggested that he do while he was gone to give them some time alone. Trowa and Wufei immediately agreed and Quatre even offered to start helping out with the wedding since he just seemed to know Ariel's answer.
Still, even after he decided to get the ring specially-made since he had not found anything close to perfect, he was hesitant. He never wanted to push her into anything she wasn't ready for. Trowa had told him to calm down while Wufei dove into his "let the girl decide" speech, something Duo had gotten a bit used to hearing from the Chinese pilot. Quatre nearly pushed him out of the office when it was time for Duo to leave today. He smirked as he thought that the blond Arabian was just as excited and as nervous as he was.
His smirk turned into a smile when he remembered Heero's words that morning when they arrived at Preventers. The Japanese man wished him luck and gave him all the support he could offer even though he was not going to be around. He had even gotten a little teary eyed when Heero told him that he cared for him like a brother and that he wanted nothing more than for Duo to be happy with the girl of his dreams. That really touched Duo and his smile grew, as did his courage for what he knew he was going to do. Unconsciously, he tightened his arms around Ariel, kissing her lips softly when she looked up at him.

Ariel smiled a little before giving him a curious look when his face turned serious. "Duo?" She whispered as she saw his violet eyes flicker with a range of emotions that confused her. The evening had been perfect and she had suddenly gotten a little insecure that he wasn't happy with how things had turned out. She sighed softly when he trailed a finger down her cheek, knowing he did the tender gesture to ease away her concerns before she blinked when he pulled away from her.
Duo dropped got down on one knee, taking both her hands in his and kissing the backs of them, resting his lips against them as he tried to fight the butterflies that had fluttered their way back into his stomach. He swallowed hard before he turned his face up to look at her, his love and devotion for her clear in his eyes mixed with fear and anxiety. "Ariel..." His voice was low and shaky as he reached to his back pocket and pulled out the black velvet box, opening it with trembling hands but never removing his gaze from her beautiful face.
A soft gasp escaped her lips as her eyes left his to focus when he opened the little box, revealing the shining ring. Her body had started trembling slightly as she looked back at his smiling, nervous face. She opened her mouth to say something... anything but found herself rendered speechless. All she was able to do was gaze into his eyes, her own filling with unshed tears.

He removed the ring, putting the black box aside before he gently took her left hand, kissing her fingers lovingly before he spoke quietly. "Ariel... I have loved you from the moment our eyes first met. I've always wondered if there is only so much love a man can give a woman, but with each passing day, I find myself loving you more and more. I know now that there is no limit to love and I want to spend the rest of my life giving you all the love I can possible give."
Duo faltered a little when he saw a tear trickle down her face but continued when she gave him a small smile. "You mean everything to me, Ariel. You make me feel whole and without you, I would still have been a lost soul, searching for something." He kissed her hand again, smiling when she squeezed his. "I know for you, it is the same. We are just as much the same as we are different."
He shifted her hand in his before he started slipping the gold band with the beautiful gems on her ring finger. His eyes focused on hers, noticing the tears that were continuously flowing before he took a deep breath. "Ariel... It would be my honor if you were my wife." He blinked several times, keeping back the tears that were threatening to escape his eyes. "Will you marry me?"

Ariel turned her eyes down to where he had slipped the ring on her finger. She stared at it for a long moment before focusing on his worried face and grinning as she nodded. "Yes..." Her voice sounded breathless. "Yes, Du.... I will marry you." She dropped to her knees in front of him, covering his hands with her free one as tears streamed down her face.
Duo's face lit up with happiness, grinning as he wrapped his arms around Ariel, pulling her close and burying his face in her neck. His body trembled from his excitement before he pulled his head away to look directly at her face, getting lost in the loving look in her eyes. "I love you Ariel." He cupped her face with his hands gently before leaning forward and kissing her, slowly deepening it, promising a wonderful future together.
She melted into his embrace, trailing her hands up and down his arms before gently grasping his biceps and using them for support since she felt herself getting unsteady. Ariel smiled at him when he pulled away enough to stare into her eyes once again. "I love you Du..." She whispered and was rewarded with a sexy grin. Her fingers reached up to touch his face, her heart swelling up with more love when he kissed her fingertips.

Duo kissed her forehead, smiling as he settled her more in his arms and then made his way into their bedroom, slightly closing the door with his foot. He gently lay her on the bed and sat down on the edge by her side, leaning over to kiss her softly before he reached over and poured some of the zinfandel in the two glasses. He handed her one when she shifted to lay on her elbow before he made a simple toast. "To forever." He grinned when she nodded and clinked her glass against his before they each took a sip, gazing deep into each other's eyes.

Her hand reached back to take his braid, looking into his eyes as she slid the tie off and began unraveling his silky chestnut hair. Duo grinned, tucking a strand of dark brown hair behind her ear before caressing her face. "Neither will I Ar... neither will I." He nuzzled his face in her hair, listening as her breathing slowed and she drifted into slumber. He continued to watch her for a long while, feeling the soothing thump of her heart against his chest. A smile crossed his face, always enjoying the peacefulness that crossed over her features when she was asleep.

"I love you, my princess, my fiancée, my life..." Duo's soft whisper filled the silence. He closed his eyes as he slid his hand down his fiancée's side before setting it on her back, never willing to let her go and always in a protective embrace. Soon, he fell asleep as well while the candles remained flickering throughout the night, casting long shadows all over the room before slowly dying out.
