Warnings: sap, some angst… AU, um… implied lemon

Serena is living with Darien after her parents and her brother were innocent victims of a gang’s crossfire in the city (Yeah… me and my crazy ideas). It is the first Thanksgiving where they share a home but Serena is alone since Darien was called in to work. ~Very short- so unlike me to write something this short since all of my other works are rather long *sheepish look~

The pretty blonde sat down heavily at the kitchen table, her beautiful blue eyes were filled with unshed tears as she stared at the empty table in front of her. ‘I have spent all week preparing for Thanksgiving only to find out that it was going to be ruined when he got a call from work this morning,’ she thought to herself, sighing sadly. “This isn’t fair. I really wanted to spend time with him today. I have so much to be thankful for despite all that’s happened this year.”

Serena closed her eyes, two tears rolling slowly down her face as she remembered the day she had received that phone call from the police. Darien had felt her sadness from across town and instantly went to her, holding her close and allowing her to cry as she told him about the phone call and what had happened. He immediately decided that she was moving in with him because he didn’t want her to be alone… then or ever. Despite the sadness she felt, a smile appeared on her lips. “I love you Darien,” she whispered as she opened her eyes, staring at the table.

“I’m still going to cook dinner for us.” She stood up and walked over to the refrigerator, opened it and began pulling out all the things that she had spent the week preparing.

Several hours had passed and it was not early evening. Serena set the table, glancing at the clock every-so-often since she knew Darien would normally be arriving soon. She put a bottle of white zinfandel in an ice bucket on the table, next to the basket of fresh bread that she had bought after she made sure everything was fine and in the oven. The turkey, to her surprise, looked very good and it was a lovely golden brown color, filled with homemade stuffing from a recipe she had seen her mother use. The sweet potatoes were in a white porcelain bowl on the other side of the turkey, along with the gravy boat, some corn and the jellied cranberry sauce.

After doing a double check of the setting, Serena quickly made her way into her and Darien’s bedroom to change into something nicer than the tattered blue jeans and the white baby tee that she was wearing. She slipped into a dark blue short velvet dress that managed to make her blue eyes appear brighter. Moving back to the closet, she found a pair of matching high heels that strapped around her ankles and slipped them on, tying them securely. She applied a very light coat of make-up and then took down her hair from their usual buns.

Blonde silk cascaded down to her calves before she picked up her brush and gently ran it down its entire length. She sighed softly when she looked at her reflection in the mirror. After all the tangles were out, she decided against putting her hair back up in the meatballs and left it down, only putting on a pair of diamond barrettes, one on each side of her head.

Glancing down at herself, Serena smoothed down the clingy material, blushing a little at how well her curves showed with the dress, hoping that Darien would like it. She left the bedroom, only glancing back for a moment to the nightstand where the clock was. “He should be coming home soon…”

It was getting late and Darien still hadn’t arrived. The food was still on the table and the candles that she had set up after she changed had burned out. Serena paced on occasion, peeking through the curtains to the street, hoping to see her beloved pull-up to the driveway, but he hadn’t. Tired, sad, and suddenly feeling very alone, Serena sat down on the couch, pulling her legs close to her as she leaned her head down on her forearm and closed her eyes, silent tears trickling down her cheeks.

Darien sped down the darkened streets on his motorcycle, annoyed with having to stay extra hours at work. Normally he didn’t mind, but today was different. Today was Thanksgiving and he had a lot to be thankful for, especially for the love his beautiful girlfriend gave to him so freely. There was something in particular that he wanted to do today and as he neared his home, he got nervous. He shut down his bike, eyeing the apartment and frowning when he saw how dark it appeared other than the kitchen light that was seen through the side window. Quietly, he made his way to the side door that led into the kitchen and went inside.

Immediately, his heart sunk when he saw all the preparations Serena had made for their Thanksgiving dinner. Darien closed his sapphire blue eyes, shaking his head a little as he whispered in the quiet kitchen. “Oh Serena… I’m so so sorry.” He looked up at the clock and saw that it was nearing nine o’clock at night. Somehow knowing that she wasn’t going to want to eat, Darien took off his jacket and then began covering all the food with plastic wrap and aluminum paper. He then quietly put everything back in the refrigerator, angry with himself for not having been with her that day.

After he finished, he went into the living room, turning on the dim light and nearly jumped in surprise to see his beautiful angel laying on the couch, fast asleep. Darien gasped softly when he realized she had left her hair down for him. ‘So beautiful…’ he thought to himself as he silently walked over to where she was and knelt down, gently trailing a finger down her cheek. He frowned when he saw the dried tracks of tears and he closed his eyes, sighing sadly, not aware that a few of his own tears escaped from his closed lids.

Serena slowly opened her eyes, blinking a few times to adjust to the light before she stared at Darien, relieved to see him at home. She reached out with one hand, gently wiping away his tears and smiling when he opened his eyes to lock with hers. “Happy Thanksgiving Darien,” she whispered quietly, linking her fingers through his when he helped her sit up.

Darien smiled a little. “Happy Thanksgiving to you too my dearest Serena.” His eyes saddened. “I’m sorry for not having been here with you today. I hope you can forgive me. I will make this up to you.”

She smiled and nodded, leaning down to rub her nose against his. “Of course I forgive you Darien. I love you.” She sat back on the couch, looking at him intently when he smiled up at her, his eyes filled with love and nervousness. “Darien? What is it?” Serena asked him curiously.

He tenderly reached up to caress her cheek, moving his hand back to run down her blonde hair before whispering. “You are so beautiful.” Darien removed his hand from her hair and then reached into his back pocket, pulling out a black box, keeping it behind his back. “Serena… you mean everything to me. I love you more than life itself. I am sorry for everything that has happened to you when it comes to your family, but I want you to know that you are not alone.” He licked his suddenly dry lips. “I am your family and I always will be. I thank God each and everyday, for blessing me with my own angel.”

Darien stopped, staring up at Serena, who had tears streaming down her face at his words. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to make you cry, Serena,” he whispered, shaking his head.

Serena smiled down at him, shaking her head and making some of her hair fall over her shoulders. “I’m not sad Darien. Your words… they mean so much to me. I…” She blinked slowly when he lifted a finger to her lips, shushing her.

He tenderly caressed her cheek with his fingers, smiling when she turned into his touch before he continued. “Serena… I don’t want to live my life without you. You mean so much to me and I can’t not being with you. Today was bad… all I wanted was to hold you close but I was stuck at work while you stayed here, waiting.” He shifted and got up on one knee as he pulled the small black box from his back and opened it, revealing a simple diamond ring. He licked his lips again as a small gasp escaped her lips, watching her look at his ever move.

Darien pulled the ring out from the box and took her left hand gently in his, stopping to kiss each fingertip before he started to slip the ring on her ring finger. “Will you marry me Serena?” His sapphire blue eyes were filled with love as he looked deep into her own eyes. “Will you be my wife?”

Serena started trembling as she saw the gold and diamond piece take its place on her finger before she looked back at him, smiling more as tears of joy slid down her face. “Yes, Darien. Yes. I will marry you. I will be your wife.” She slid off of the couch and into his lap, hugging him tightly when he wound his strong arms around her waist, holding her close. “I love you Darien.”

He smiled as he nuzzled her neck. “I love you too Serena. So much that it hurts, especially when I can’t be with you.” Darien pulled her away and looked up, deep into her eyes for a long moment before he kissed her. It started off soft and sweet but it soon deepened as their love took over.

She pulled away, watching his eyes darken in desire and love. “I think this has become the best Thanksgiving ever.” She smiled seductively before kissing him again, giggling when he stood up with her in his arms.

Darien nipped at her neck as he started walking towards their bedroom, stopping to shut off the lights in the kitchen and the living room and winking at her when she had a surprised look on her face that he put all the things away from the table. He carried her through the door, kicking it closed behind him. His husky voice was heard through the door. “A very happy thanksgiving indeed.” His soft quiet whispers of love and devotion remained concealed in that room.
