One day while going through the search results about dragons James came across a book that he didn't think would be under that topic. Its name was "Sorcery and Witchcraft". It sounded interesting to him so he checked it out.
When he got home he scanned the table of contents and ran across one particular part called "Turning beings of turn yourself into a dragon by saying a certain phrase." That's where he stopped to find out how.
He scanned over it until he found what he was looking for. It said a person could turn himself into a dragon by holding a dragon necklace of any kind in your hand and repeating the phrase "Dragon wing, dragon claw, dragon teeth let me turn from dragon to man whenever I want!" The spell sounded a little messed up but whatever turned him into a dragon was fine with him. Since he had no dragon necklace he had to wait until later to try it out.
Later that night, he had a weird dream. It was weird because he had never had one like it before; it was about several hundred dragons being killed one after another, dropping like flies. But a wizard was trying to help the dragons and wrote a spell that would allow humans to bring the dragon race back into existence. He couldn't read what the words were, so he thought it was just some crazy dream. He disregarded it because he had no clue of what it might mean.
When he woke up, the day began like any other day. He went to school and kept the book he checked out in his backpack. He would look over it at break. Instead of looking back at the part he looked at last night, he scanned back through the table of contents until he found something else interesting. He found another interesting topic titled "How to use magic in everyday life." He started reading it rather quickly not studying it like the part about turning yourself into a dragon, but as soon as it started saying things about reading minds, he though to himself "Hmm, this could come in handy for a while." So he read on to see how he could actually read people's minds.
It turned out that one didn't have to do much except for one part that said he had to mix a lot of stuff into one mixture and drink it. Later that day, when he got out of school, he went to the store and bought a dragon necklace that he had been wanting for a while, even before he got the book.
When he got home he really couldn't do much except wait until everybody was asleep, so they wouldn't get suspicious.
At about midnight that night, he went outside and went to a place where there weren't very many people and there was a clearing. When he got to where he wanted, he got the book and recited the phrase "Dragon wing, dragon claw, dragon teeth let me turn from dragon to man whenever I want!" After he said it he thought it worked because he felt a tingling feeling on his leg, but when he looked down at his leg, there was just a beetle crawling down. He was really angry because he thought it was really going to work, but to his disappointment it didn't.
As a result, he walked to the nearest thing he could hit, but when he hit what was in front of him, he heard a shattering sound that came from ahead of him. He felt what he had hit and it turned out to be glass. He didn't notice that someone had been securing the premises he was on until a guard grabbed his shoulder. He struggled to get away, but it was no good the guard was too strong and made James stand still right where he was.
The guard brought James to a room where they played "20 questions", but James wasn't asking any questions. The guard told James his name was Joe and said he would not call the cops if he would help pay for and help put in a new window; so instantly James agreed to the terms.
James asked, "Are you going to call my parents?" Joe told him that he was going to call them in the morning and tell them what had happened and what James had agreed to do. After they talked, Joe took James home without waking up James's parents.
When he went upstairs he started reading the part of the book that talked about turning humans into dragons. As he read over the phrase he noticed a star at the end of the phrase. At the bottom of the page, James read, "When saying this phrase you must really mean it. If it doesn't work at first it means that you had a very little amount of a feeling thinking that the spell won't work. You must have full confidence that this will actually turn you into a dragon." After he read this, he immediately fell asleep.
The next day in history class when a desk in front of him was thrown across the room and through a window, James was blamed for it and sent to the principal's office. When the principal called him in, he was surprised when he told him that his history teacher had sent him there for throwing a desk through a window. The principal's name was Mr. Wiseman. Wiseman asked, "Did you really throw a desk through the window?"
"No, and if you don't believe me I got witnesses that say I didn't do it." James answered.
"Okay, since you have witnesses, I won't do anything got that, but on your way here some teachers said you were cussing at the air. Were you?" Wiseman asked.
James silently cursed the teachers for hearing him and said, "Well, since I'm not getting' in trouble for the desk, I might as well admit to that."
"Okay then, your punishment is three days of after-school detention. Starting today."
After he got out of A.S.D., James went straight home to find his mom mad at him. "Come sit your butt in this chair this instant." His mom said. "I got two calls about you this afternoon- one from your principal and another from a guard at the national park."
"I can explain both." He pleaded. "The one you got from Mr. Wiseman was about a desk going through a window, but I swear I didn't do it and I got three days of A.S.D."
"Okay you explained that one. What about the guard at the national park?" his mom asked.
"Okay, last night I went for a walk, and I stopped to rest, not knowing I was at the park. I started just throwing punches into the wind and when I turned a certain way I accidentally hit a window with my fist and cut my hand. Here's proof," he said and showed her his hand.
"Alright, since you told me the truth, I'll let you off this time, but next time, whether you tell the truth or not, you're going to be grounded for a month." He mom warned.
He waited until midnight again to try turning into a dragon again. He got to a clear part of town, where there was no park, story, or person around, to try the spell. He found a spot right outside town where nobody was around. He got out his necklace and said that transformation spell. Nothing happened once again, but this time he said nothing and did nothing and went home.
The next day at school something even weirder than yesterday happened. He was going to English class when, right as he walked in the door, the wall fell backwards away from the class. The ceiling stayed up, but the funny thing was the door was standing and never fell. This time, he wasn't blamed for the mishap, but it made him think.
That night, at the same time and place as last night and tried the spell again. This time he said it with more feeling than he ever had before. He said that spell and this time he started feeling something in his leg, then his hand; from his hand, it moved up his arm. He looked at his hand and saw claws, looked at his leg, and it was huge. Then his clothes started to rip. Finally he was a dragon. "It worked!" he yelled in delight. Now all he had to do was think really hard about turning from human to man whenever he wanted. It was weird, though. When he became a dragon he felt this enormous power concentration nearby. He just thought it was just the power of the dragon form, so he disregarded it.
The next day, at school, something even worse than before happened. While in Algebra class, empty desks were picked up and thrown against the wall by some invisible force. When everybody jumped out of their desks, those desks were thrown against the wall by the same invisible for. After al of it was done, James's desk was the only one not thrown. When they switched classes, James said to himself. "At least I didn't get blamed for that." At lunch he was talking to his girlfriend about what had been happening the past three days and them told her, "You should have been there last night. It was cool! Last night around 12:30 I had the most fun of my life."
"What happened?" Amber his girlfriend asked.
"Believe it or not, but I turned myself into a dragon, but it took me like three times before it actually happened." He told her.
"Yeah right."
"You don't believe me?" he asked. "Okay, I'll show you; meet me at the park tonight at midnight and make sure no one follows you."
Later that night, they met at the park and went to the outskirts of town where he went the night before. He told her, "After I say this phrase I want you to repeat it. You must have complete confidence in this spell for it to work. I don't have to say it since I've already turned into a dragon but I'm still going to say it."
He said the spell and it took about fifteen seconds for him to change, and after he was a full dragon Amber starred up at him in astonishment. She finally came out of her trance and said the spell with more feeling than James did when he turned into a dragon. Since it was her first time it took about a minute for her to change. "Now let's fly around." He told her.
"It's actually pretty fun flying above every home in town." She said. They flew around for about two hours, until they got tired. They flew to Amber's house and landed in her backyard. James told her, "Now to change back, you must think about it really hard, and then you'll change back to human." She changed back and, all of a sudden, she shrieked loudly. She kept yelling, "Where are my clothes? Where are my clothes?" Until finally James told her, "Oh yeah, I forgot. Once you turn into a dragon, your clothes get ripped to shreds, so you might want to watch what you wear when you want to fly."
"Thanks for telling me now asshole," she said.
James started laughing and after his laughing fit quit he told her he was sorry and went home.
The next day went just like any other day, with no accidents. At the end of school, James asked Amber, "Do you want to go flying tonight?"
"Sure just as long as you don't look at me when I change back to human."
"Deal."
That night, three fireballs came from a cave and headed straight for James and Amber. They barely moved out of the way in time. They decided they were going to go check it out. They cave was huge, big enough for both of them to walk in side by side. As they walked in, a fireball came out of the shadows, straight at the middle of them. Amazingly, both James and Amber shot balls of ice at the fireballs. When the two balls of ice collided, it put an ice wall up and fizzled out the fireball. "What the hell did we just do?" Amber asked.
"Dunno." James replied.
"So you are the chosen ones," a sinister sounding voice said from the shadows. A second later three witches stepped out of the shadows.
"Who are you?" James said.
"We are Celestia, Arcon, and Helga, the three witches that you let out." They said.
"What are you talking about?" Amber asked.
"So you didn't know what you were doing before you said the spell?" they asked. "Well, let us tell you all about it. First of all we are from the year A.D. 1200. Back when dragons had a race of their own and helped man with every disease that plagued them.
"Eventually, the dragons began to trust man with the most powerful spell of all- the ability to change into dragons and let dragons take over the world. Since dragons are witches' sword enemies, this spell would totally wipe out all witches"
They paused a minute to let it all sink in, then started again and said, "We were the three most powerful witches back then and still are. One of the dragons told the head magician the secret to transform into dragons. When we received word of this, we sent a witch to kill him, but instead of her killing him, he killed her. I sent Arcon to kill him, but he had the phrase written down. Your dream you had, James, was one generated by the book. All those dragons that were going down in a ball of fire was done by me, Celestia. Since he had already written down the phrase, we could not trace it, so we made a spell. Whenever the phrase was called out the first time, Arcon came out. The second time, Helga came out, and finally, the third time, I cam out. The spell worked."
After that, she shot another fireball at them. There was no place to run and no time to shoot a ball of ice, so they just ducked and hoped it would miss them. The fireball barely missed them, but it burned James's wing. Right as it went by, both of them shot balls of ice at the three witches. It froze two of them, and Celestia was the only one left.
Both Amber and James said good bye in a sarcastic tone of voice and shot Celestia with a fireball. When it exploded on impact, the blast broke the other witch's ice chambers and broke them into pieces. They finally figured out why dragons were the witches' sword enemy. It was because dragons were more powerful. That night, James had the same dream he had a few nights ago, but this time the dragons were flying around with joy, without any witch's around. As for the future, the dragon race was restored, and again, dragons and humans lived in peace. Then around A.D. 4000, humans turned into dragons and stayed that way for eternity.
