Black Magic

Once, long ago in a realm called Iztmir, there was a boy named Snail. He was named Snail because he did everything he was supposed to do slower than anybody else did. He was tall for his age and he had dark hair. He was a peasant who lived whereever he could find a home because he was thrown out of his parents’ house because they were superstitious; they thought that a tall person would bring them bad luck. He liked to steal other people’s belongings, and the way he stole it was amazing; he would use his power of telekinesis to will the objects over to him and run with them. After he was thrown out, a wizard found him on the street and made Snail his apprentice.

After a few years a being and apprentice, Snail learned how to control black magic. The main way he used it was by opening a portal to move from one place to another.

One day he heard the wizard talking to the king, telling him that Snail was getting too powerful and he must be killed. After hearing this he decided to kill the wizard; he did this by using the portal to appear behind the wizard and hit him over the head with a mace, He accomplished this mission and did the same with the king.

The next day, the king and his wizard were found in the moat of the castle. After the bodies were found, a search party was sent to find Snail and bring him in, dead or alive. It had been four days since he had done his deed, and now he had become more powerful than the wizard had ever been. Since he was more powerful than the wizard, he decided to have a little fun and make the village people think they were being attacked be a hydra, a five-headed dragon. Once he unleashed the illusion, the whole town went berserk; the illusion made them think that every house in the village was destroyed, but once he reversed the illusion, the buildings were all still standing. The Royal Guards, those who were the kings most trusted body guards, knew that only one person could have made that happen-Snail.

One day while he was lying down on a corner, a woman passed by and saw him on her way back from the market and asked him if he had somewhere to stay. He told her he didn’t have anywhere and asked if he could have a place to stay. She said that he could stay at her place until he could live on his own. He accepted, got up and followed he to her house.

On the way to the house she told him that since he was going to be living there he should know her name. She told him her name was Daniella. He told her that his name was Snail. She asked him why his name was Snail, and he said because he always did things slow. He thought to himself that obviously she didn’t know about the deeds he had done. “That was okay,” he thought, “just as long as she never finds out, it will blow over in a few years.”

Years passed, he grew older and he grew more responsible. He still used magic and got into trouble every now and then, but one day Daniella came home to find that some had ransacked her room.

Money was stolen and so were some very valuable jewels that were given to her by her grandmother. She asked Snail if he knew what had happened, but he knew very well what happened. A few years ago he saw Daniella wearing a jewel that had been given to him by the wizard, he had lost the jewel while running from the castle after the deed. He had not had a chance until then to look for it. He did not find it, even though he ransacked the room. He told her he had no idea, that he was out.

She did not believe him so the next day she went to the castle and told them that her house had been robbed, and she thought it was Snail, the person who had been staying at her house for the past four or five years.

The name immediately struck interest in the guard. He did not know the boy, but knew that a boy named Snail had killed the king and wizard about five years before. The guard told her that he would come by later and ask the kid some questions. Daniella told them that would be okay and left for home.

When she got home she did not tell Snail that one of the Royal Guards was coming later, because she did not want him to try and run.

It was getting late, and Daniella started to think that the guard was not going to show, but while she and Snail were eating supper, a knock came at the door.

Snail got nervous because no one in town ever knocked during supper, but he had always heard that the Royal Guards did every now and then.

Daniella got up, opened the door and told the stranger that she thought that he wouldn’t make it.

When Snail heard the door shut and saw her come back with a Royal Guard coming right behind her, he immediately jumped up and waited for the guard to make his move.

The guard told Snail that he just wanted to ask him a few questions.

Snail disagreed.

Just as he declined the guards' offer the guard pulled out his sword, but before he pulled it out of the sheath, Snail was headed for the back door. When he reached the back room, Snail turned and looked to see what the guard was doing.

The guard saw this, stopped and told him the house was surrounded.

Snail stared at him for a few seconds and told him that you cannot surround if you’re not on the ground. All of a sudden, the ground started to shake, and Daniella, the guard, the house, and the guards around the house started to float into the air.

Once they were too high to touch Snail, he started to walk away, but he paused and all he did was wave his hand, and right as he finished, they all fell from the air. Since they were so far up the fall killed all of them except the guard that had fold him the house was surrounded.

As the guard dug out of the rubble he watched Snail walk away. Since the guard had ridden there on a dragon he called for it.

The dragon helped him on his back and took off after Snail. He followed the path Snail took, but couldn’t find him, but just as he was about to turn around he saw something sparkle. He went toward the sparkle and found out it was the jewel the wizard had given Snail years earlier. About three yards away he found the body of Snail, lying with a dagger in his heart and in a puddle of blood.

In Snails’ left hand was a piece of paper that read, “I have been running from the Royal Guards for five years and am tired or running, so this night, I will free my soul an let it be reincarnated into a more powerful creature other that human. Good Bye."

Since the king’s killer had been killed, and since Snail killed almost ten other people, the guard decided to leave Snails’ body where it lay. The guard decided to quit being a Royal Guard because he had seen too much death. He flew around until he or his dragon died.

As for the future, with no king to lead them, the humans of Itzmir opened a portal to the Earth realm and left the realm of Itzmir to the dwarves and elves and many other creatures that inhabited the realm.
