NICHOLAS BERKLEY MASON

Nicholas Berkley Mason was born on January 27th, 1944 in Birmingham, England. He is the only member of Pink Floyd to be on all albums and with Pink Floyd from the beginning to present day. Nick was born into wealth, and from an early age was taken to Vintage Sports Car Club events which he has continued to take an interest in today. He attended Frensham Heights private school, where he is still remembered as a first class mischief maker. In college, Nick met fellow students Roger Waters and Richard Wright and joined their band, "The Abdabs" in 1965. Nick's contribution to the Floyd sound are both drumming, producing, and sound effects, most of which are heard on Dark Side of the Moon. He also designed the cover for the album Relics. It is Nick's voice that is heard on "One of These Days" on the Meddle album saying, "One of these days I'm going to cut you into little pieces". Although Nick has never sang on an album, in one rare concert in 1975 he sang the "Merry Christmas Song".

Nick in the early days

One of Nick's most loved hobbies is his passion for racing and cars. He owns and races several including Ferraris, Bugattis, and Maserattis. This was featured in a film, "La Carrera Panamericana" about a race in Mexico, in which Nick, David Gilmour and Steve O'Rourke (Pink Floyd's Manager) participated.

In June 2001, Nick was approached by Roger Waters who invited him to appear during his In The Flesh Tour. This was rather historical since none of the present day Floyd had performed with Roger since the Wall shows in 1981. Twenty years later, Nick appeared during the last two In The Flesh shows and played guest drums on one of their early songs, Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun. After the number, the two embraced each other to the delight of fans who were lucky enough to witness this event. Below are pictures of their hug captured on film:
