Theban

The earliest reference to Theban was in Cornelius Agrippa's 'ThreeBooks of Occult Philosophy' firsyt published in 1531. The Theban alphabet is long steeped in mystery and is used by many traditions of the craft. First-level students of some traditions are required to learn Theban as part of their magickal training.

Theban is a phonetic alphabet, so magic would be spelt majik. and angel would be spelt anjul.

The Theban alphabet above was taken from 'Teen Witch' by Silver Ravenwolf, Llewelyn Publications.

Hebrew

"Twenty-two foundation letters : He ordained them, He hewed them, He combined them, He weighed them, He interchanged them. And he created with them the whole creation and everything to be created in the future."

Sefer Yetsirah("Book of Formation")

Knowledge of the Hebrew alphabet is essential in studying the Kabbalah and Ceremonial Magick.

Students of the Kabbalah divide the 22 Hebrew letters into three groups; the Mother Letters, the Double Letters(because they have two pronounciations) and the Single Letters(which have one pronounciation).

The three Mother Letters are Aleph, Mem, and Shin, they are associated with the elements; the seven Double Letters are associated with the seven planets known to the ancients; the twelve Single Letters are associated with the Zodiac.

Unlike most alphabets, Hebrew is read from right to left instead of left to right.
