Ritual Soaps

Ritual soaps are a great form of herbal magick. They can be used in a ritual bath with bath salts or bath sachets. Even such a minor purification ritual as washing your hands with a purification soap (and the visualization course) before any type of ritual can do wonders in helping with the spell.

There are two types of ritual soaps. Soap bars which are great for ritual baths. And liquid soaps which are great for things like the simple pre-spell purification ritual mention above.

To make the soap bars you don't need to go through the mess difficult process of using lye and rendered fat and such. It's best to start of with pure Castile soap (the coconut oil variety gives best results). To make the soap first take a 4 oz. bar of unscented soap and with a sharp thick bladed knife cut it into small cubes. The smaller the cubes the better. Now put these in a heat proof non metallic container and heat a bit less then 1/3 cup of water until nearly boiling. Some people get dry skin when using Castile soap so you can subtract one or two teaspoons of water and replace with almond, apricot, or coconut oil. When the water is nearly boiling pour the water onto the soap and let cool till it can be handled. While it is cooling mix together the essential oils and empower them. When the soap has cooled add enough oil until the soap is heavily scented. Mix until the soap and water are completely mixed together. Divide the entire mass into 3 or 4 pieces and form into spheres. Place each sphere in a square or cheesecloth and bring the ends together. Twist so the cloth is fairly tight around the soap and then tie with string. Hang the spheres in a warm place for about three days. They are done when they won't give when pressed with you finger. Wrap in new cheesecloth and store in an airtight jar. To use simply use in the ritual bath in the same manner as regular soap only again with visualization and power.

Liquid soap is an alternative though I don't recommend it for baths. It's best for purification type rituals mentioned above or for use in showers for people who don't have tubs but rather the shower stalls. To make grate Castile soap and pack (it must be packed or it won't come out right) into a measuring cup until you have one cup. While doing this heat 3 cups water in a nonmetallic pot (remember you can substitute a few teaspoons with one of the oils mentioned above) to nearly boiling. Put the soap into the water and turn off the heat. Mix this with a wooded spoon (don't use a whisk because it's made of metal) until the soap chips have melted into the water. While the soap is cooling mix and empower the essential oils. When the soap has cooled add the oils and stir them in. Store in a jar or one of them little soap dispensers they sell for the bathroom. To use in the same fashion as regular liquid soap only with power and visualization.
