A Christmas Carol That's Not So Merry Apologies to Chris Whitely The Christmas season's when it's better to give than to receive. But the present that you gave to me, I just could not believe I spent my weekend shopping, to find a decent present That would make the receiver's holiday a bit more pleasant The stores began to close, so I thought that I'd go home But the scene I found when I got there, it chilled me to the bone The lights were dim, the candles lit, and still I saw some more Another hat where mine should go, a coat upon the floor And from the other room, I heard laughs, chuckles, and guffaws, You sat upon somebody's knee, it wasn't Santa Claus. So silently I hit the road, and haven't yet returned It's been a whole ten minutes but the backstabbing still burns I guess I'll come back soon and act like everything's fine And not discuss the level of the bottle full of wine But I won't have a fun Christmas, it's time to face the fact That this year's Yuletide's gonna be, for me, a solo act
