Act 1
Scene One
(Rose, Alan, and Bob are carrying books, walking down a hallway. They are in the middle of a conversation)
Bob: Well, you need a life. You're fat and ugly and stupid.
Rose: Go look in a mirror, drummer boy. So, are you lazy couch potatoes actually going to socialize this Friday or sit on your butts at home watching Pok-e-man?
B: I think I'll just sit at home.
Alan: I'm going skating.
R: I don't know what I'm going to do, but I need to do something. I'm so bored!
B: Actually, I am going to the mall . .
R: A-ha! The bum has decided to get off his couch!
B: Yea, I guess. Umm, you want to come with us?
R: You airhead. One minute you're insulting me, the next you're inviting me to the mall.
A: I can backwards skate.
B: So, do you want to come? We're going to see Rollarball.
R: Really? I was going to see that, probably with Barbara Jean
B: Okay, that's cool. We can meet up.
A: I really like skating
B: I'll talk to you later, Rose
R: See you
Scene Two
(At the mall - Rose, Alan, Bob, and Barbara Jean are in a movie theater, all seated together)
Barbara Jean: That movie was great!
Rose: You airhead, that was just the previews.
Alan: Does this movie have skating in it?
Bob: Shut up!
BJ: Make me!
R: BJ . .
BJ: Shutting up.
Alan: When does the skating part start?
**72 minutes later**
Barbara Jean: Now can I say that movie was great?
Rose: You weren't even watching it, you were busy
BJ: Oh.
Bob: Yeah, busy chucking whoppers and popcorn at the people in front of us
BJ: He he, that was funny. That guy had popcorn in his hair
A: (excited) That movie had skating in it!
R: (sarcastic) That's right, Alan. Good job.
BJ: So where should we go now?
B: I'm going to harass the security guards. I'll see you guys later.
R: Bye
BJ: I saw some totally cute guys back there. I'm outta here!
A: I'm going to go skate.
R: I guess that leaves me all alone. **sigh** There, my best friends are an airhead, a skater, and . . and . . Bob.
Scene Three
(Rose is riding bikes with Bob)
Rose: (laughing) He actually did that? What an idiot. You really need some new friends, dude.
Bob: (also laughing) Well, some of my guys friends might be idiots. But they're my friends, no matter what kind of dimwitted situations they can get themselves into
Rose: Are you always the one that keeps them out of trouble?
Bob: Hell no! I'm always right there in front of them, the biggest idiot of them all! (he grins)
Rose: You need some counseling
Bob: Rose?
Rose: Yeah?
B: Can I ask you something? I didn't want to say this in front of anyone else, but . . .
The story ends here. You decide what Bob asks Rose. Write a paragraph with 13,747 supporting sentences. Make sure it follows the Pennsylvania State Reading Assessment rubric. You must get a 7 out of 5 to pass.

R: (mutter) Skitso (to Bob) Sure. I've been looking for someone to go with. I was going to go with Hickory Zefenkul, but I guess the "most popular guy in school" isn't half-bad either . . (They ride their bikes off into the sunset)
ALTERNATE ENDING B
B: . . why are you so annoying? I mean, you're always around people. Can’t you ever just shut up? I would hang around with you more, but you're such a geek, being in that GT program and all. And -
R: (slaps Bob and rides away)
B: Wait! I didn't mean it! Come back! Do you want to go see a movie Friday?
