Housing
- aquarium with mesh screen lid is best
- allow at least 20gal per pair
- social and should be kept in small groups or pairs
- Bedding: organic soil or aspen, deep enough to burrow in
- Accessories: chews, tunnels, hideaways
Food
- feed a mixture of high quality rodent seed mix, cavy pellets and rodent blocks
- fresh fruits and veggies daily
Breeding
- Maturity: males 3-4 months, females 5 months
- Gestation: 75-85 days
- Litter size: 1-3
- females in captivity tend to breed for only 1-2 years
- young are born fully developed
- should be weaned by 6-8 weeks old
