Himsati is the essence of the Immortal being. It is the creature or elemental force from
which the Immortal evolved. It is the soul of the Immortal which is clothed in undying
flesh.
Immortal: Shapeshifter gives new depths to the familiar Himsati, giving light to a
glittering facet of Immortal existence. The Himsati comes alive with new power and
possibilities. No longer will Pride and Calling alone define the Immortal!
The outlook of each Pride toward the Himsati will influence how each Ingenue feels about
their "wild side", as Immortals call their Himsatis. Each Pride (including the
13th, Pride Roane, once masters of the Stratagem) have distinct beliefs concerning the
"form that injures."
For instance . . .
Pride Anopheles
Created as thralls of their Abzulim masters, they were designed to be the ultimate killing
machines. This love of murder and violence is part of their soul. In order to break the
hold of the Abzulim over them, the Anopheles became the extreme sensualists that they are
today.
Pride Arachne
The Arachne torment their inner selves, making the Himsati their seat of emotion. Under
this purposeful onslaught, their remorseless Himsatis become deadly weapons which they
release against only their most bitter enemies.
Pride Banjax
The Banjax utilize Himsati in their rites as a symbolic reminder of freedom. They refused
to be caged again, that applies even to the "cage" of the Terrene (or human)
form.
Pride Dracul
They keep the Himsati in check with the discipline that has made them famous. Only in the
presence of their Lord Sharakai (the Dracul) do they allow themselves to transform.
Pride Eremite
They use their violent Himsati to avenge and protect humankind from the predations of the
Sanguinary's minions, and the violence of the immortal animals. Their Himsatis are the
ultimate warriors.
Pride Magdalen
They eschew their inner beings for the clarity of thought granted by their human forms.
They revile the violence that Himsati breeds, even though the Ban has created within their
Himsatis, the ability to free themselves and others from the curses of taboo.
Pride Morrigan
They use their ability to fly in their Himsati as a celebration of life and death. They
revel in the life given them as Immortals, free of the confines of earth, but they also
seek to battle the Sanguinary claw to claw in the midst of the air, where its avatar
dwells.
Pride Nimrod
They leash their Himsatis, whom they can separate from their bodies and confine within
their shadows. They use the inner beast as a hunter to search out and destroy, not only
the Sanguinary's minions, but those who violate the Pandect (the laws of the Immortals).
Pride Peri
The Peri do not restrict themselves, but instead embrace Himsati. They are fearless. They
use Himsati to become weapons, which can be wielded against the enemy.
Pride Phoenix
The Phoenix assume their fiery inner souls easily and often. They use them to purge the
world. That which is strong enough to stand the test of their inner souls' touch, is pure.
All else is consumed in the fires of their jihad.
Pride Roane
Recently reinstated into Perpetual Society, they were once the Scepter Pride. Their
bestial souls sing the songs of the sea. Their Himsati is a necessity against the beasts
spawned in the blackness of the oceans. They seek the death of the Leviathan, whose taint
has given it over to the Sanguinary.
Pride Tautha
The Tautha hide their Himsatis, seeking perfection through the Stratagem. They seek others
who have been lost to the Sanguinary. They are the healers and redeemers of the lost
souls. Within the Sunedrion, they seek to restore the tainted to wholeness.
Pride Terat
Terat is the name for monster, but they are no monsters. They seek the unity of all
Immortalkind. They are a nation, composed not of beings who mock their origins with a
human mouth, but true souls in bodies made incorruptible. They embrace their origins to
remain true to themselves, and provide a refuge for the rare Immortal who sees the truth
of their way.
HImsati is the basis for Immortal racial identity. It will also present some interesting
role playing material in the form of Immortal racial prejudice (Shadow Immortals are hated
by those of fire, Immortal primates hate serpents, etc.). This will add a new dimension to
the diversity of Immortal.
The Himsati is influenced powerfully by the phases of the moon. Humankind's fascination
with the moon was no accident. Why did the ancients keep such accurate charts of the
course of the moon? It was to mark those times when their Immortal masters and gods waxed
and waned in power.
The phases of the moon grant power to the Himsati in the form of additional motes of Free
Immaculum. Greatest at the full moon for Immortals who are pure, free from taint. The dark
moon empowers the Immortals who have acquired taint. Power waxes and wanes, but all
Himsatis are empowered! Only during three days of each lunar month, does Himsati lack the
strengthening power of the moon.
Phase of the Moon | Bonus to | Bonus to |
---|---|---|
Untainted | Tainted | |
Full Moon | +4 | +0 |
Gibbous Moon | +3 | +1 |
Half Moon | +2 | +2 |
Crescent Moon | +1 | +3 |
New Moon | +0 | +4 |
This means that during the full moon, the untainted Immortal in Himsati form can
utilize his serenades nearly as effectively as if he were in a human shape. This makes the
Himsati a desired form to take, especially during the phases of the moon where it is
particularly empowered.
Many players will use their Himsati forms for combat (if they were not doing so already).
They will take advantage of the increased Free Immaculum during certain phases of the moon
for the additional attacks that it grants.
To balance this. The Himsati has extreme difficulty in using weapons (a -5 penalty to
skill). In addition, the Himsati must possess one of two new skills in order not to suffer
a -5 penalty for being unskilled in general combat. The two skills are: Bite, which
utilizes teeth, and Strike which utilizes, claws, horns, and other natural adaptations.
Drove Immortals become creatures of the darkest moon. They hunt their prey during the dark
of the moon and avoid other Immortals during their more vulnerable cycle. They are
especially empowered by the new Himsati Natures.
Lunar phases also control the influence which the Sanguinary can exert over the Immortal.
At the full moon, the Sanguinary can inflict ravening madness and bloodlust whose duration
is violent but short. During the new moon, the Adversary can exert a powerful and long
lasting subtle effect over the Immortal will.
Himsati has powers not possessed by the Terrene (human) form. These powers are connected
to the various halo colors, and called Natures. Each Immortal's Himsati has four Natures
derived from the family of creature or forces from which he ascended, plus additional
Natures as he rises on the Himsati Tier. There are over seventy Natures ranging from
Beauty to Elongated Limbs, to Terrain (the ability to meld with the earth and create
rugged terrain which hampers others in combat).
Some of the powers available to the different halos colors are:
Red - Beauty, Control Birds, Control Darkness, Control Fire, Control Mammals, Control
Water and Ice, Hibernation, Mimicry, and Weather Control
Orange - Blood Drain, Coils, Natural Weaponry, Spew, and Webbing
Yellow - Animate Plant, Balance, Body Compression, Multiple Limbs, Seclusion and Secretion
Green - Arboreal Movement, Burrowing, Cheetah, Flight, Haste, Leap, Phasing - Stone and
Terrain
Blue - 360 Degree Vision, Bioluminescence, Deafen, Echolocation, Infrared, Pheromone
Language, Smell Deceit, and Vibrations
Violet - Armor, Growth, Immunity to Pressure, Limb Regrowth, Regeneration, and Solace
Each Pride grants its members a gift. This power is vitally connected to the Himsati form,
and the Pride's view of the Himsati (some can use their gifts when in Himsati, others only
when in the Terrene form). These powers are only available to those Immortals who have
been uplifted into a Pride. The gifts vary from the Anopheles gift of Estrus (the
Anopheles pheromones allow the Immortal to cause another being to become obsessed), to the
Magdalen's Innocence (which allows them to devour taboos, without spinning off scions).
The Chimera, a child of an Immortal Madonna, carries the genetic material of the entire
Immortal race within its body. It is a creature of varied Himsati, taking aspects of beast
and element simultaneously.
Similarly, the Doppelganger, a child whose parents were both Madonnas, retains the gifts
of his former Pride even when uplifted by another Pride.
Shapeshifter promises to bring a revolution in the Immortal Experience. So, check out
Shapeshifter when it comes your way, and TAKE A WALK ON THE WILD SIDE!!!!!!!!
This month we'll explore the Habitat and its creatures to understand the heart of the
Immortal, his Himsati. This month we examine the reptile.
"Satan was reputed to be a serpent. I do not remember."
No creatures strike fear into the hearts of mankind like the reptiles. Ancient, when
man first began to walk upright, they are the symbol of eternity, never changing. They are
the cold blooded predators which humanity fears, or wishes it might become.
The reptile represents a throwback to the most primitive of instincts. Little
sophistication exists in their stark world. They are survivors, living through the
destruction of countless other species. Their detachment is legendary.
The reptilian Immortal is a stereotype for cold-bloodedness. Predilections common to
Immortals with reptilian Himsatis are: Analysts, Cabalists, Confidants, Drifters, Misfits,
Mourners, Preternaturals, Rakes, Surrealists, Survivors, and Teachers.
The following is a list of companion creatures and their physical statistics, habits and
abilities. There is also a brief description of the characteristics of Immortals whose
Himsatis match these creatures.
Below : L = light wounds, I = Impairing wounds, S = Severe wounds, C = Crippling wounds, M
= Mortal wounds
Large Constrictor Snake (Boa Constrictor, Anaconda, Python)
Forte (ROYGBV): 1/5/2/1/2/4
Wounds: L 10 I 3 S 2 C 1 M 1
Damage: -2
(this means that 2 is subtracted from the creature's bite damage based on its Orange
forte)
Talents: Bite 2, Stealth 3, Climbing 4, Swimming 4
Twilight Animals' Tactics and Abilities: The constrictors lie in ambush for their prey in
trees, near water holes, or in the underbrush. They appear as large logs, or patterns of
leaves and earth. They are capable of taking down large prey (including deer, small
crocodiles, etc.; the anaconda has been known to kill and devour jaguars!). Their powerful
coils are used to wrap around and suffocate their prey. This tactic would not work well
against the Immortal , as suffocation would not kill an Immortal. They are shy creatures
who spend the vast majority of their time lying in wait for prey, or digesting it. They
are not aggressive unless provoked, in which case they can be deadly to smaller creatures.
Only the largest specimens are of any significant danger to humans (the largest anacondas
can grow to 30' or 10m in length and weigh nearly a half ton!)
Immortals: The Immortal constrictor is a powerfully built being, whose lithe form is
nothing but rippling muscle. They are quiet and confident, not given to emotional
outbursts. They are specialists in hand to hand combat, using their powerful bodies to
crush the life out of their opponents. They prefer martial arts which concentrate on
holds. They are quite physically attractive, but have a characteristic aura of detachment
which is disturbing to Twilights. They are private and not generally social. You can find
them in nearly any Calling..
Vipers (poisonous snakes, cobra, rattlesnake, black mamba, etc.)
Forte (ROYGBV): 1/1/3/1/2/2
Wounds: up to L 6 I 2 S 1 C 1 M 1
Damage: -4
Talents: Bite 2, Stealth 3, Climbing 3, Swimming 3
Twilight Animals' Tactics and Abilities: Vipers hunt by ambush. They move only when
seeking prey. They will hunt anything that is close to their own size, but are fearless
and aggressive in their own defense. They kill by poisoning their prey. The poison of
vipers ranges from a potency of 3-5. Rattlesnakes are among the least venomous at 3, to
the krait and tiger snake at a virulent rank 5 venom. The largest viper is the king cobra
at 18' or 6m long. All vipers are dangerous to both Twilights and Immortals.
Immortals:: Immortal vipers are all possess the Poison nature. They are feared as Slayers
and Scourges, but are found in every Calling. They are supremely adaptable. They are
social, sensual and deceitful beings. They have an appetite for sensuality and pursue it,
and sometimes kill their lovers afterwards. They like to move in high powered social
circles and are adept at intrigue. They are smooth liars and can make the most blatant lie
sound genuine.
Crocodiles and Alligators
Forte (ROYGBV): 1/8/2/2/2/6 (for the largest crocodiles)
Wounds: up to L 13 I 4 S 2 C 1 M 1
Damage: +3
Talents: Bite 1, Stealth 3, Swimming 5
Twilight Animals' Tactics and Abilities:: Crocodilians are solitary hunters who will wait
in the water waiting to ambush any creature who comes to the water to drink. They are
dangerous and very powerful. Some species are extremely aggressive. They grow up to 25' or
8m in length and over a ton! They are among the largest predators in the world. Crocodiles
are a threat to humans and can attack for little apparent reason. Alligators, caiman's,
and gavials are much more docile.
Immortals: The Immortal crocodile is amazingly strong and resistant to damage to damage.
They are confidant and soft spoken. They are cold beings who are adept at fooling others
about their sincerity. They are excellent comrades and protective of those they consider
friends, but never betray them! Slayers and Keepers are their primary Callings.
Giant Turtles and Tortoises
Forte (ROYGBV): 1/6/1/1/2/8
Wounds: up to L 13 I 4 S 2 C 1 M 1
Damage: 0 (no bonus)
Talents: Swimming 4, except for tortoises
Twilight Animals' Tactics and Abilities: Turtles are docile creatures who have life spans
exceeding a century. They spend their days searching for food and hiding from anything
that dares to bother them. They will not attack at all, and swim away from danger, or hide
in their shells. They are no threat to humans. The largest specimens are the Galapagos
giant tortoises which grow to over 500 lbs (230 kg) and the giant sea turtles who grow to
20' long (6m) and about a ton.
Immortals: Immortal turtles are wise, quiet and gentle. They are slow to speak, preferring
to watch others. They are helpful and excel as Sleepers. They are loners, but they are
good conversationalists and personable when you can manage to get them to speak. They tend
to be extraordinarily physically resilient. They excel as Sleepers.
Snapping Turtle
Forte (ROYGBV): 1/4/1/1/2/5
Wounds: up to L 10 I 3 S 2 C 1 M 1
Damage: +3
Talents: Bite 1, Camouflage 1, Swimming 3
Twilight Animals' Tactics and Abilities: They are bottom dwelling predators who wait in
ambush for prey, or who swim along beneath the water and attack creatures above them. The
snapping turtle is very aggressive and will attack any creature that gets near it. When
faced with a creature that could threaten it, the turtle heads for deeper water and draws
itself into its small shell for protection, leaving only the armored tail sticking out for
a predator to grab.
Immortals: Immortals with this Himsati are aggressive boors who fear little, they are
braggarts and can find fault with perfection. They are physically strong and resilient,
but they are not very quick. They are found most often in the role of Keeper.
Monitor Lizards
Forte (ROYGBV): 1/5/2/3/3/4
Wounds: up to L 11 I 3 S 2 C 1 M 1
Damage: +1
Talents: Bite 2, Swimming 5, Climbing 4, Stealth 2
Twilight Animals' Tactics and Abilities: The monitor lizards are the most aggressive and
largest of all lizards. They are active hunters and have vicious tempers. They will attack
humans who intimidate them, or, in the case of the Komodo Dragon (which can grow up to 12'
/ 4m long and 350 lbs/ 150 kg), it actually considers man to be a normal prey animal. They
hunt by ambush, but also stalk prey. Their favorite food is eggs.
Immortals: The Immortal monitor is dangerous and cruel. They are extremely aggressive and
love killing. They can be social, but prefer to use their quick powerful claws to do their
talking. They are found in nearly every Calling, but they do not make good Emissaries or
Jugglers. They are known for their love of food, but poor manners.
The following are excerpts from Radio Eternity news broadcasts aired during the month.
Dateline - Vladivostok
Forces from Prides Morrigan and Nimrod clashed over the skies of Vladivostok. Lighters
belonging to both Prides encountered in a 30 minute aerial battle which ended in the
destruction of both vessels. The vessels were lost in the sea off the Siberian coast. No
wreckage was found near the apparent crash site. Emissaries have been dispatched to Pride
Roane to determine the fate of the pilots of the lighters.
Dateline - Bern Switzerland
Pride Peri has been allegedly abducting Ingenue and holding them at a site beneath the
mountains outside Bern. The facility was infiltrated by daring Solitaire operatives of the
Shondaran dynasty. A battle ensued in which at least one of the Shodarans was slain.
Fifteen Ingenue were rescued. Solitaires are urged to stay clear of the Swiss region for
the time being. Retaliatory strikes have been staged by the Peri against Solitaire
holdings in the area.
Dateline - Phoenix Arizona
A mysterious mantle has appeared several times in the last lunar month in the Phoenix
area. More than 10 Immortals have sighted the strange towers of a keep which seems to
phase in and out of the Habitat. Probes from all Prides have been given access to the area
by the local Regency. We will update you as reports come in. The Phoenix area should be
considered a hot zone, with potential conflicts likely.
