A wizard member of the White Council, and the driving force behind the quest to destroy the Ring. Gandalf appears as an old man, but is in fact a being of great power, sent by the Valar {Gods} to contest evil in Middle Earth. He and his fellow wizards {sometimes called Istair} are forbidden to challenge evil by direct confrontation, or to dominate the races of Middle Earth, but instead sent to rouse the Free People for resistance and guide them in their struggle.

Quote:'Yes I am white now' said Ganadalf 'Indeed I am Saruman,one might almost say, Saruman as he should have been."

Quote: 'Dangerous! "cried Gandalf." And so am I, very dangerous: more dangerous than anything you will ever meet, Unless you are brought alive before the seat of the Dark Lord. And Aragorn is dangerous, and Legolas is dangerous. You are beset with dangers, Gimli, son of Gloin; for you are dangerous yourself, in your own fashion."

Qoute: I am Gandalf, Gandalf the white, but Black is mighter still;

Quote:Gandalf To Aragorn I was bidden to say this: 'Where now are Dunedain,Elessar,Elessar? Why do thy kinfolks wander afar? Near is the hour when the Lost should come forth, And the Grey company ride from the North. But dark is the path appointed for thee; The Dead watch the road that leads to the sea.'
To Legolas she sent this word: 'Legolas Greenleaf long under the tree in joy thou hast lived. Beware of the sea! If thou hearest the cry of the gull on the shore, Thy heart shall then rest in the forest no more.'
To Gimli son of Gloin,"she said" give his Lady's greeting. Lockbear, wherever thou goest my thought goes with thee. But have a care to lay thine axe to the right tree.

Quote:"That is Shadowfax. He is the chief of the Mearas, lords of horses, and not even Theoden, King of Rohan, has ever looked on a better. Does he not shine like silver and run as smoothly as a swift stream? He has come for me: the horse of the White Rider. We are going to battle together;"
Quote:In Dwimordene, in Lorien Seldom have walked the feet of Men, Few mortal eyes have seen the light. That lies there ever, long and bright. Galadriel! Galadriel! Clear is the water of your well; White is the star in your white hand; Unmarred unstained is leaf and land In Dwimordene, in Lorien, More fair than thoughts of Mortal Men.

Qutoe:'Nay, Eomer, you do not fully understand the mind of Master Wormtongue; said Gandalf "He is bold and cunning. Even now he plays a game with peril and wins a throw. Hours of my percious time he has wasted already Down snake!"Down on your belly! How long is it since Saruman brought you?

Quote: "But there is no knowing what he can do, or may choose to try. A wild beast comered is not safe to approach. And Saruman has powers you do not guess. Beware of his voice!"

Quote: 'Behold, I am not Gandalf the Grey, whom you betrayed. I am Gandalf the White, who has returned from death. You have no colour now, and I cast you from the order and from the council. He raised his hand and spoke slowly in a clear cold voice. 'Saruman, your staff is broken; There was a crack, and the staff split asunder in Saruman's hand, and the head of it fell down at Gandalf's feet."Go" said Gandalf.

A Hobbit of the Shire. The nephew and heir of the Hobbit hero Bilbo Baggins, Frodo inherits Bilbo's ring of power which turns out to be the One Ring created by the Dark Lord Sauron. At Gandalf's urging, Frodo travels to Rivendell and is charged with the ulimate task of taking the Ring back to the only place where it can be unmade: the Cracks of Doom beneath Mount Orodruin, at the very heart of Sauron's power.

Quote: He said 'This at least is plain: the evil of the Ring is already at work even in the company, and the Ring must leave them before it does more harm. I will go alone.

Quote:'I don't know, how long we shall take to-to finish; said Frodo.'We were miserably delayed in the hills, But Samwise Gamgee, my dear hobbit-indeed, Sam my dearest hobbit friend of friends-I do not think we need give thought to what comes after that?
Qutoe:I am commanded to go to the land of Mordor, and therefore I shall go; said Frodo'If there is only one way, then I must take it. What comes after must come.'
Quote:"Farwell!'Think what you will, I am a friend of all enemies of the One Enemy. We would go with you, if we halfing folk could hope to serve you, such doughty men and strong as you seem, and if my errand permitted it. May the light shine on your swords!"
Quote:"Most gracious host; said Frodo,'it was said to me by Elrond Halfeven that I should find friendship upon the way, secret and unlooked for, Certainly I look for no such friendship as you have shown. To have found it turn evil to good."
